When I Was a Kid....

You had to get out of the chair and turn a dial to change TV station. Ugh

WIWAK

I got in trouble for untying the rope from the flap pole, going up on the hill and swinging like Tarzan!

WIWAK, the new season of Saturday morning cartoons was a highlight of my life.

When I was a kid...my Grandparents, Maternal and Paternal, were part of my daily life...I was so blessed to have that kind of love and presence as a constant...

My Paternal Grandma was a Nurse...I would visit her at work...and thought she was so cool wearing that Nurses Hat:D:heart:

Oh how I miss them...and the Innocence of life:rose:

WIWAK, I was taught Gaelic, Old English, Latin and medieval French. Only bits that stuck were from the first two.

WIWAK, getting the Christmas catalogs was the high point of the year. Sears, J.C. Penney, Montgomery Wards, Spiegel.....

Things were much cheaper, movies we're much more diverse, the storylines were better, people helped out one another more, comic books were the rage (in my geeky world), children went outside and played and we used our imaginations more.

WIWAK

TV had three channels, during the day they broadcast a test card a lot of the time & it all closed down round midnight.

Pop bottles had a deposit you could get back on the empties and were fully recyclable. (Plus kids were encouraged to find them rather than toss them).

If you complained to your parents that a neighbour or teacher had disciplined you, you got another telling off for showing the family up!

When I was a KID, my mom sewed most of my clothes...She was a top notch seamstress and fashion diva...I was always so in awe of her creativity and style...

Bonus...I almost flunked Home Ec...In the sewing portion, I could not sew a blouse...We had a fashion show where we had to model our blouses in front of the whole school...But since I could NOT construct one for the life of me, it was pinned to a hangar, and I had to walk across the stage with the hanger instead...I was the only one...:D

My poor mom...she was not proud of me that day:eek:

WIWAK, we would either have Sunday lunch at my grandma's house or go to the steak house. :)

When I was a kid...My dad was the School Principal...and EVERY single morning without fail I was woke up by him to go over my homework and review with him...:heart:

WIWAK I walked out of my parents' house, stood next to the mail box on the corner and looked up at the moon while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were there, on it (NOT on some sound stage in Burbank).

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a firefighter purely because I thought you could being the engine home at night and show off to the neighbours.

Here's the one that never failed to freak my students out.......

When I was a child, I knew people who had been born in slavery!

When I was a kid the neighbor in the next cave invented some sort of a wheel and his dad invented fire. I used to take burnt sticks and draw pictures of naked men on my cave room wall with the charred coals.

Many nites we'd sit next to the river and watch flying ships pass over. One time some little green men with big heads zapped me and made me pregnant. Mars was a better place back then.
