I'm not talking about the natural, organic scents that can emanate from the human body to entice and arouse the opposite sex. Let's look at additive scents, such as perfumes, soaps, cosmetics, etc. What do you find appealing?

I had an ex-wife who was a social smoker. (She only smoked outside her place of work with coworkers in order to be sociable during their breaks) When she came home, I would frequently ask her not to wash her hands. The smell of the smoke on her fingers as she used them to spread her labia for me just added a certain naughtiness that I can't explain and thinking of it (but not her) still turns me on.

Smell appeals to something very visceral. Some of our strongest memories can be triggered by smell - some personal (non-erotic) ones that evoke strong, strong memories are the smell of roasting coffee, the smell of the London Underground (I can conjure up the smell from a thousand miles away and not having smelt it for 15 years), and the smell of camp fires.

My wife has an erotic one that she tells me she can't explain - the smell of brandy and cigars. Sadly, I like neither very much (don't smoke, prefer Scotch), but she swears that if I get her in a place where she smells the lingering aroma of brandy and cigars her panties will be halfway down her legs before I've got a chance to ask her what she's doing.

I liken it to drinking beer. Something I typically do in the evenings, and always a pleasure. But then when I do have one in the middle of the day, especially on a warm day -- outside in the case of beer, but since I'm not as adventurous as my characters the sex tends to be limited to windows open with fresh air coming in -- there's something of a special treat in it. And as I savor it I ask myself why I don't do this more often, the answer of course being I would never get anything else done.

The main reason I do it isn't arousal based. It's just easier to wash dried up cum or blood from bare skin than hair.

The only actual sexual benefit I've found is less unsexy hair pulling. I mean, have someone fuck you while using tweezers on single hairs here and there in the genital region. Removing the hair eliminates the issue.

Bonus reason: It feels better when going commando in skirts.

1. I think it feels better. I like the touch of completely bare skin.
2. It's definitely better for oral sex, which I enjoy.

Hair removal has quite a long history so while I'm sure there are folks out there who do view it as infantilizing women, I think the majority of those who shave down there do it for personal/aesthetic/societal reasons moreso than any sort of other fetishistic movement.

Personally, I swim and play beach volleyball with some regularity so keeping it trim down there means I don't have to worry about errant pubes sticking out. Plus it helps keep things sealed tightly so sand doesn't get where it shouldn't be (Anakin was right*).
