interesting note on the history of corona

The tradition of drinking coronas with a lime originated when corona was first imported into the U.S.. Because they didn't have today's methods of preserving beer, and beer in clear bottles would spoil quickly, corona began putting a small amount of formaldehyde into the beer to preserve it. The lime tradition began as a way to kill the taste of the formaldehyde. Hence the reason it is stuck into the top of the bottle, because that is where your mouth touches the glass, and where you are most likely to taste the formaldehyde.
