What third party in America today has the best chance of replacing a major one?

The general public might not be quite ready, but I'm sure many Litsters will find something that speaks powerfully to them in the platform of the Scorched Earth Party.

Here at the Scorched Earth Party, we are dedicated to a few simple principles:

* that the concept of "life is sacred" is the best joke we've heard this year.
* that nothing satisfies like clubbing some moron to death with a lead pipe.
* that you can never get laid enough.
* that the world will continue to deteriorate until 90% of its population is eliminated.

True happiness will never be yours unless you rise up with us. Join the 10% with the lead pipes. Help save the world through random, messy violence, and then wallow in carnal pleasure among the ruins.

The tea party has a strong chance of replacing republicans, and then fading into obscurity soon after.

The only reason the "tea party" even exists as a concept is that the Republican brand was so damaged by Dubya. I've been saying for two and a half years that the two were synonymous, and the truth of this is now acknowledged by almost everyone.

I think the conditions by which a new party could supplant the Democrats or the GOP would be something we can't foresee right now. Given the way politics tends to work in this country, I think the best chance for that happening would if someone would emerge who was a cross between Silvio Berlusconi and Ross Perot--essentially a personality cult, but one that had even more financial resources behind it than Perot had, and with a more coherent philosophy so that it could survive its founder.

The rich have already bought the government indirectly; I expect at some point they will decide to cut out the middleman.

A mogul with coherent politics and charisma? Only George Soros and the Koch Brothers come to mind, and only for a very low value of "charisma."

Maybe Bloomberg. But he ain't really mogul enough to pull it off. Nor is he that charismatic. Just passable for TV.

He's also sort of sane.

We are stuck with the two major parties we have, as similar as they are, for the foreseeable future, with no viable alternatives.

Fringes come and fringes go, but infringement never draws enough to make a go of it.

There exists a politicasl cohort that isnt represented by either party: Its the group that really pays all the taxes, serves in the military, does most of the real work that gets done, and generally keeps its nose clean. The High Proletariat Class or anyone who's non-management. The worker-bees. The folks who join the PTA and American Legion and Polish-American Club. They bowl and fish and play softball.

The GOP and Democrats pretty much represent the right & left of the elite and executive class. The folks who join country clubs and yacht clubs and play tennis.

I vote Democrat, but I regret directions the Democratic Party took during the 1960s. When it became obvious that ending racial discrimination would not end racial inequality Democrats tried to force racial equality by jeopardizing the interests of white blue collar workers with programs like forced school busing and affirmative action. The taxes of white blue collar workers were used to pay for welfare checks for blacks who could have found minimum wage jobs, but choose not to.

You thought that because you are the kind of RW idiot who can't tell Keynes from Stalin, and sees the whole left side of the field as through the wrong end of a telescope.
