'Cause I don't think it's gonna last out the month.

Any other ideas?

Maybe I lead an incredibly sheltered life, because I find it impossible to tell you what the next best thing to Maker's Mark is because I have no idea what Maker's Mark is in the first place!?!?

Are you somewhere that you can't get maker's?

I prefer whiskey to bourbon, but if I had some more info. on your whereabouts I could be of more help.

(an actual question I can answer...it was bound to happen).

Depends on how much you want to pay...

I know the mid-range priced stuff... something like Jimmy Beam...

if your mixing it with something... go for Beam or cheaper...

I don't think I can get it mailed. I checked one site, and it said they couldn't.

I will look around for it here, but I don't think I'll find it. You never know, though.

Blushing Rose, can I have those bottles? LOL

I have access to Jack Daniels and Jim Beam, but it's not the same taste. I've gotten quite fond of the taste of Maker's. And yes, I mix it with Coke 'cause I'm a wimp. But the level of Coke is slowly dwindling.

But what tastes close to it? So I have a backup when I finish the bottle?

Knob Creek...it's more expensive but it's bourbon and has that same nutty finish thing happening.

A true whiskey/bourbon connesiour would fall over dead with a heart attack if he/she saw you mix Makers with coke. LOL. But I have to admit... I've done it myself a few times. Actually... if you get some sour mix with the coke, you can make a pretty tasty drink. I think it's ice to the top of the glass, makers til there's about an inch left, then coke to the top, then a capful or two of the sour mix. Stir it up and drink.

I've never found anything close to Makers Mark. Sorry. After a few drinks it's all the same anyway. LOL. Just use more coke those first couple of drinks. I used to be a Jim Beam man myself.

I agree with Alexandra.....Knob Creek would be an acceptable alternative to Maker's.

If you don't mind me asking....where are you located that you cannot find Maker's any longer?

Switch to scotch. That's my suggestion. :)

I could never acquire a taste for Scotch. I'm a bourbon girl.
None of that Jim Beam stuff either, PBW, bring the Jack Daniels' or the panties stay on.;)

LMAO... works for me. :)

I actually prefer Knob Creek myself, but I bet it's just as hard to find. :( I also like Weller Special Reserve, and it should be easier to find and a little cheaper.

I like it all (scotch, tequilla, bourbon, vodka, rum, gin) in that order.

My favorite bourbons are Kentucky Straight Whiskies.

Old GrandDad is an excellent straight whiskey that is widely overlooked.

When I was a starving college student, Jim Beam was clearly superior, to my taste, to anything else I could afford. Now for some reason I prefer the taste of Jack Daniels Black. Have a nearly full bottle of Makers Mark, but will go see Jack first if he's around. When I feel like a change, I go "clear" and fly the Grey Goose.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep them in mind when I'm out shopping. :)

Vilac, I'm in Germany, so some of the suggestions can't be found here.

Jack Daniels. Might work.

If I could I'd mail you some (Maker's Mark), but not overseas.

What is that other stuff... Johnny Walker Black? Think so. Or Red, I like the Black myself.

Poor baby. This is serious. Very serious. You won't understand unless you yourself have had Maker's Mark.

April? I have never heard of Maker's Mark.
Dillinger drinks it too? What is the big appeal? :)
My favourites are Scrumpy Cider and Coruba rum.

i vote we start up a collection to buy a case of the stuff and ship it out to her. it's the Lit thing to do!

requesting Ensign Mark report to her command for duty!

:D

(that's a pseudo joke. you see, back in the late 50s there was a new Russian sub out prowling around. now, the commander of the US sub fleet started a bet. the first sub captain to get the thing to surface, for it was diesel-powered back then, would receive a full case of Jack Daniels to do with as he pleased. when one did it, he sent out a message that went along the lines of "Urgent. Requesting Ensign Daniels report to my command for duty," so as to keep what had just occured secret)

I hadn't heard of it either until Dillinger and Kitten Eyes were talking about it.
Didn't think much of it until I had a chance to have some on the airplane. Dammmnnn. Had some more on my trip, and more on the plane back. I cam home with a bottle of it. Damn shame I didn't think to buy two bottles. LOL

I don't drink that much, really. *snort* Yeah, just look at the bottle, and you'll see that's a lie. But it tastes so good. Much smoother than Jack Daniels.

I think I'll give the Johnny Walker Black a try next.

I know I am going to get blasted for this

Personally I dont care for Makers Mark. I prefer to drink my whiskey double with three cubes of ice. My three brands of choice are:

George Dickle 10yr (has the white label)
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Reserve
Wild Turkey Rare Breed

and if I just want to get shitfaced I run up the road to the old man and get me a quart of shine:D and then pray the hangover goes away

just a footnote..... it also helps that I live within 30 miles of both the Jack Daniels distillery and the George Dickle distillery. If you enjoy Jack Black you will love the single barrel reserve........ smooth as honey

I haven't tried many 'top shelf' drinks. Whisky, tequila etc apart from rum.
LOL
Will try to buy Makers Mark locally in New Zealand tomorrow.
Bet the guy/gal at the liquor store goes, "Huh?"

:D

Germany, hmm....
My only other suggestion for a larger known lable would be Johhny Walker Black...or if the funds permit, Johnny Walker Blue. Other than that.....best of luck!
