What is the commonly used trope that irks you the most?

I've read some stories that attempted to express those concepts, and they generally fall short of saying anything interesting or meaningful. They do tend to fall back onto stereotypes.

But should the category even exist? I've seen that many people here think its very existence is a form of racism, and I can see the argument for that. But interracial is a kink, so I suppose it belongs here as long as it has writers and readers.

I think a well written story which reflects the [sadly all too prevalent] divisions between parts of our society and the [even sadder] reluctance of some people to accept “the other” with love and respect, would be excellent. I have neither the skill nor the background (as a white woman) to write this.

My non-white characters ethnicities are footnotes in the story. I try to embrace diversity, but steer away from portraying cultures that I don’t know well enough.

That pretty much covers the bases, doesn't it? In two paragraphs we've established the main character's need, the hole in his life and his motivation, Mom's hotness, the triggering event, and Son's reaction to it. It's just cat and mouse from there.

Do YOU think it's enough?

Pretty sure you're just trying to mock me, but I'll take it at face value. No, it's fucking not enough. What you wrote is the very definition of a trope.

As the first part of my post indicated, good execution can make an unoriginal idea work. I hope what you posted was meant to be parody, because it really doesn't work.

Trying to be light-hearted, not mocking. Tone doesn't come though very well in online conversations. I'm playing around with the concepts rather than trying to offend. If you caught that what I wrote was a parody, then we can at least agree on that much.

As I said before, I think it's an amusing thread, because one person's eye roller is another person's turn on. We're all turned on by different things, and with regard to things we are turned on by we're probably a lot more receptive to getting to the good stuff via the shortest path.

Personally, I wouldn't like to see all tropes left out of erotica. Do that and it will be far less entertaining and do less to scratch the itches we all come here to get scratched. After all, some tropes seem harmless enough... Big breast craving, big cock craving, river-sized gushes of cum, voluminous female squirting, etc... all seem pretty benign.

BBC and anything incest-related, however, not so benign... IMHO

She's been in other things. Riddick, for instance.

I think it's because she's played very self-assured women in so many sci-fi settings. When she gets flirty, with that big smile and those dimples, it makes nerds think they stand a chance.

Or maybe nerds just like the women in their favourite franchises, regardless of who they are.
 
The trope that I dislike the most are so many of the old Gunsmoke episodes. Consider: A defenseless woman with young children (especially a teenage male) who has lost or is about to lose her ranch all because of the actions of bad men with guns. Within one hour, a gun in the hand of an adult male, or guns in the hands of good males will save the day. The dawn was always so much brighter after the killing had gotten done and things were finally heading in the right direction--thanks to guns in the hands of good men.

The show proved that women are no good with guns, especially rifles. They are much too heavy and awkward for a woman.
The show proved that teen males want to help, but they are too small, inexperienced, or just hadn't been taught to use guns by their already-dead or away-on-a-cattle-drive fathers.
The show proved that guns in the hands of good men make up for the use of guns in the hands of bad men.

Gunsmoke helped a lot of people form their opinions about gun control in the United States.

I lived with two women for four years. Went on to have a steady relationship with one for many years after. We ended up breaking up and she ended up with a woman. Threesomes happen in real life. I wouldn't recommend it and it's not like porn movies either. Because I experienced "real life" sex with two women I find 90 percent of all lesbian porn just laughable. Just saying there are women out there who want both but it's just not like a porn movie.
