The title says it all.

Is there some commonly used trope that you find particularly irksome and why?
It can be a Lit trope but it can also be something more general, something from any genre of books or even movies.

The science fiction/fantasy trope where the good guys kill the big bad, and POOF! All the bad things in the world go away. It's used in many novels and movies that I love, and I'm willing to forgive them because it's so ubiquitous, but it's fucking lazy.

Close tie between Shame and Dominance. People, women especially, assuming a man needs to be controlled by a woman in or outside the bedroom. Or one partner needs to be controlled by the other in general. That sexual desire is an awful thing in general. That it needs to be hidden, lied about, downplayed or denied. This irritates me. It's one thing to keep it away from underage children- that I fully support- but adults can be more mature and understanding, right?

Besides, cooperation to achieve a mutual wonderful climax is such a better fantasy. I hope the majority of people here will agree.

I will have hell rain down on my head, the world will explode - moms and their sons. For me, that's the most absurd trope of all. Mums made you sandwiches to take to school, and gave you wisdom about the young woman she didn't like, "Because she didn't love you enough," but you don't fantasise about fucking your mum. That's just so very weird to me, I've never understood it. I didn't know it was such a huge thing until I got to Literotica ten years ago, and went, huh, what's that all about?

Any type of contrived situation to get a girl to put out. I'm talking about blackmail, lost bet, dire need of cash/paying off a debt, etc. All that jive.

Yes, it is absolutely possible to write a good riveting story involving these themes, but we rarely if ever see it here on lit. The vast majority of the time, I can see right through the narrative to the author himself. Let me just say first that I in no way wish to shame someone's fantasies nor do I want to ridicule someone for a lack of prowess with women in real life, but it just screams obvious that the author in almost all of these stories has no idea how to charm a girl or get her into bed in real life and so his mind wanders to outside help like ... blackmail, lost bet etc. Again, honestly not trying to shame or ridicule anyone, but it just makes a really boring cookie cutter plot and I really don't have time for your bad story.

Cayman Island offshore accounts to hide money in LW stories.
I mean, seriously, is it that much work to read up on the topic and move your money to a bank that actually hides your money?

Since we are in the SciFi/Fantasy territory, I'll point out one trope that irks me because it is so overused, mostly to cover up the lazy worldbuilding.
In so many books or movies of the genre, there are remnants of some prior race in the world that allow a certain setting without the need for any explanation or lore behind it. Some race, in like 80% of the cases called The Builders or The Ancients, created something ages ago and then simply vanished without a trace. So now you have certain unexplained and wondrous magical or sci-fi setting, without the need to explain it or to integrate its existence into the story. It just exists.
Sure, there are books and movies that eventually present a reasonable explanation and build a part of the plot around it, but they are a hard minority.

I have two way-too-common porno tropes that make me tune out. First is the obligatory extended cock worship. When it's 80-90% of the flick... oh, pleeeeze. I'm bothering with this to watch 'em fuck, and there are dozens of ways to do it that are fun, interesting, and sometimes fascinating. Don't waste my time.

Second has been recently discussed in the forum - A to V. And back. And switch again. Unprotected. I want to scream at the screen that the implication this is "normal" and "expected" sexual activity is ludicrous.

Yea, even if she's into it, she's begging for a yeast infection. But really you should know that this is not a problem since sexually transmitted ailments do not exist in erotica. ;)

Lesbians who secretly yearn for men.
Oh step brother, good thing you're here! I told my lesbian girlfriend about your cock, and she was so curious to see it. Won't you show it to her?

not judging anyone's fantasies, but word to the wise, don't post story like that in the lesbian category... or do, and let me know

I've never had a threesome, but I've spent a good part of my life surrounded by women. There's only one way this scenario ends, realistically: with the two women gossiping and giggling about the man as if he isn't there. And not in a sexy way, either.

Amen to mom-son incest.

I will admit I have read parent-child incest stories but in order to enjoy them I always have to reimagine it as roleplaying. I have imagined the fantasy myself too. But I always end up just pushing it aside as inappropriate, calling up another fantasy to complete climax. My own mother, for all the many signs of a reverse Oedipus complex towards me she has shown- overhyping my handsomeness to people, putting down my dates on various levels, making up phony sexual stories about me and certain people... I don't need to go into detail, let's just say I hesitate to introduce her to my romantic partners for good reason- is also smart enough to recognize this, I believe, and never try to make any fantasies she may or may not have about me real. If she ever proves me wrong, I plan on telling her I'm not interested and that she should role-play the scenario with my stepfather first- warning her that I think she has a great relationship with my stepfather that has lasted over 40 years, something that should not be jeopardized- and see what happens.

Maybe other people who have been able to comfortably depict such fantasies in their erotic fiction have better relationships with their parents. I have no idea.

Do I regret not being in their club? Sometimes. I am willing to admit my ultimate fantasy woman does resemble my mother in some ways. But said woman is not my mother also, and that makes a lot of difference. ;)

Amen to unclean ass-to-vagina stuff too. Ass-to-mouth is even worse. Sorry, Jason Mewes, but you need some serious sex education if you think that's a good idea.

Two I could do without: Football (US version) quarterback and cheerleader couple (gag.) Poker night.

(Although I enjoyed flipping the table on the latter trope in one story, just because.)

Physical characteristics doing the yeoman's work in the bedroom.

Big dicks = flooded pussies and waterfall orgasms.

It reduces the search for a compatible partner down to a 4H Best Hog blue ribbon competition.

Characters need to negotiate more. Mindreaders and perfect pairings abound.

I throw myself into BDSM sometimes when it is distinctly not my kink b/c I am so desperate to see people figuring their sexual selves (and partners) out together.

Story existed before written word and is evolutions gift on how to learn from other's experiences/mistakes.

Give me something I can ruminate on, even apply to my own life, and I'll follow you til the internet goes forever dark.

I've known some real life football player and cheerleader couples. I'm okay with that trope.

I personally agree on the body dimorphism issues. I often don't describe the exact breast sizes, cock sizes, and so on of my characters. I prefer to let readers fill in the blanks as they prefer.

What? Nooo... first they will admire his big cock, then they can't resist the need to fuck it. Then *spoiler alert* they receive a double facial while they make out, after which they'll revert back to doing their lesbian things... krav maga, hackey sack, or playing folk guitar in the back of a subaru outback or whatever.

Before someone brings up slutty celebrity parodies, a kink I will admit I have- this is a legal kink and one that is protected by a unanimous US Supreme Court decision. Until you can strike that down- and like Larry Flynt, I will gladly fall on my sword fighting for its protection- you have no business shaming me for my dreams. Do I shame you for yours?

What is the commonly used trope that irks you the most?

Interracial being anything other than just sex between two Homo sapiens. Tiny white girls being violated by BBCs as if a wild animal has been let loose on them. Hate the segregationalist undertones. Hate the black guys as something other than human undertones.

People are people. Melanin and collagen levels are entirely irrelevant.
