I'm currently developing a fantasy story and I'm looking for someone to collaborate with during the creative process. Ideally, I'd like to find someone who can:
  • Bounce ideas back and forth with me as I develop the plot and characters
  • Eventually serve as a beta reader when I have drafts ready
  • Possibly help with editing once the project is more developed
I'd especially appreciate someone with fantasy genre experience, though enthusiastic readers without specific fantasy authoring background are also welcome. The most important qualities I'm looking for are:
  • Constructive feedback style
  • Reliability and communication
  • Genuine interest in the fantasy genre
I've never written a fantasy story before and I'm a bit intimidated by the category, but I like my idea and would rather make it as good as I can with the help of others rather than venture into this new territory alone (wait is this a trope already?).

If you're interested in collaborating, please reply here or send me a message.

Thanks for considering!

Start with the world. What is it like? What technological level? What races & species, or just human? Magic? Politics?

What excites your imagination?

I don't think there's anything to be intimidated by. Fantasy is such a varied genre that you can write whatever you want and find an audience who enjoy it.

Make it imaginative but consistent, don't go overboard with worldbuilding and unnecessary background detail, and keep the story moving forward. Readers care far more about strong characters and their immediate surroundings. If a detail isn't relevant in the story's here and now, leave it out.

Agree. Fantasy is a generic term that can be applied to historical to outer space.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and general advice. I guess I was just interested in the idea of collaboration on a new story and having someone to bounce ideas off of in a genre I feel a bit unfamiliar with. I realize the term fantasy is rather broad so if you're interested in knowing more I would call it a portal fantasy with our protagonists transported to a medieval like world with sensual magic. The story focuses on strategic growth and grounded character relationships. I have much of the magic system and the setting and overall plot sketched out I just wanted someone's help with making sense of it all.
