What is the commonly used trope that irks you the most?

Wow, the number of posts and the derailment of this thread... You guys have really upped your game, it seems. Well, at least there was some nerdy talk about genetics. ๐Ÿค“

But I am surprised no one pounced on the fact that mitochondrial Eve is estimated to have existed about 150 000 years ago, while mitochondrial Adam is estimated somewhere around 200 000 to 300 000 years ago. Now that would have been one helluva May-December story. You know, the usual, girl meets an older guy, girl clubs the guy over his head and drags him to her den... or is it the other way around? ๐Ÿค”

It's a good indicator of how bad Hollywood writers are these days. I mean, they took everything from the SW EU, the characters, the setting, everything. They could even count on so many SW fans and fans of the two amazing old games that created the Mandalorian culture, and they still fucked it all up. I have been suspicious of the series from the start because I saw it wasn't building anything new; it was just exploiting everything that had already been built.
And that's one of the better SW shows even...
Hollywood needs an exorcism ๐Ÿ‘ป

I liked the first two seasons, then it became the Bo-Katan Kryze show and I lost interest. What do the fanboys see in Katee Jerkoff?

The title says it all.

Is there some commonly used trope that you find particularly irksome and why?
It can be a Lit trope but it can also be something more general, something from any genre of books or even movies.
I don't know, I'll read anything if it's well written. High level execution overcomes lack of originality.

When it comes to incest stories, though, I don't like two family members just inexplicably jumping each other. For the story to work, I feel like there has to be some back story to build sexual tension, and some kind of trigger to set it off.

Interracial being anything other than just sex between two Homo sapiens. Tiny white girls being violated by BBCs as if a wild animal has been let loose on them. Hate the segregationalist undertones. Hate the black guys as something other than human undertones.

People are people. Melanin and collagen levels are entirely irrelevant.

I agree that interracial, the way you describe it, is objectionable.

That being said, I think it is possible to write an interracial story of quality. It could focus on the social/family/friends angle, and the barriers they face in their relationship. Or it could focus on the excitement of the taboo, especially where at least one of the characters comes from an isolated or sheltered (or prejudiced) background. Or something along those lines.

I've read some stories that attempted to express those concepts, and they generally fall short of saying anything interesting or meaningful. They do tend to fall back onto stereotypes.

But should the category even exist? I've seen that many people here think its very existence is a form of racism, and I can see the argument for that. But interracial is a kink, so I suppose it belongs here as long as it has writers and readers.

Is this enough buildup and trigger:

One day I was walking down the hallway of my house, mourning my breakup with Trixie and the glum prospect of a sexless summer, when Mom exited the bathroom, having just taken her morning shower. Suddenly, the towel fell off her body. The splendor of her feminine, MILFy glory was revealed to me at last, leaving me dumbfounded and awestruck. Mom gasped and covered herself as best she could with her hands. She turned and ran back to her bedroom, revealing a perfect, smooth peach of an ass.

From that moment on, I knew I had to have her.

That pretty much covers the bases, doesn't it? In two paragraphs we've established the main character's need, the hole in his life and his motivation, Mom's hotness, the triggering event, and Son's reaction to it. It's just cat and mouse from there.
