It's less what I accomplished and more what my mentee accomplished.

This young woman has been struggling, but she has talent. I'm not the only one who sees it.

Part of what she lacks is confidence (and it doesn't help that the first thing we do here is to work hard to destroy that).

Today, she briefed me and my "cranky" colleague (who frankly is one of the best people in the place) on her project. She did a good job. And her project is interesting. He's on board to work on it too and he told me...that was the best part of his day (and I know what he means).

This is the part of my job that gives me goosebumps. This is the part of my job that makes all the rest of the fucking bullshit I put up with worth it.

If I do NOTHING else all day...it was a good day....

I amazed myself...

chores at home. Washed a load of clothes, and hung them out to dry!! Been below freezing for over a week, now its 45 and sunny! Even swept the stairs and the downstairs bathroom floors. Reading away with laughter at Herriot's "All Things Wise and Wonderful.

Get ready for supper at a jazz joint, then off to the Univ. to see the commies do their version of "Sleeping Beauty." Even got my spyglass packed for the event! Done by the Moscow Festival Ballet, o my!
