After sitting through my daughter's first day of junior danceline practice and watching these little kindergarten and first grade girls having a blast working on dance steps, I thought to myself, "This is so cool for these little ones to have this chance."

I also wondered, since this is my first time with a child in extra caricular activities, what things do your kids do after school, and how old were they when they started? Did they enjoy it right away, or was it something they stuck with for a while, then became bored with? I kinda like having her in danceline, since I think it promotes self esteem, confidence and gives her a way to get some of her energy out. :)

So what do you guys think?

:)

I have a son involved in Ice Hockey, for six years now and he loves it. My daughter is 14 and has bounced from Jazz to Gymnastics to Ballet to Drama to Soccer and has finally settled o Horsebackriding.............Let them try what ever they want...but have them finish out what ever time committment they make, whether a season or a set of leassons.....then if they want to change to something else.....LET THEM!

When she was 3, a little friend of hers was in ballet, but I couldn't afford lessons and I had no real way to get her there. Since danceline is a school activity, she gets to ride the bus. I got lucky today and conned a ride from her father. :)

I also told her that she's gonna finish the year and after that she can decide if she wants to do it next year. And I've stressed that I don't care if she doesn't do an excellent job, so long as she does her best and tries her hardest. She seemed pleased with that. :)

My kids are involved in draining Daddies wallet...seriously...!!

mostly cub scouts and picking money off the money tree i have growing in my front yard:p

Hmmmm we homeschool so our activities aren't considered extra curricular, but I have a 5 and 1/2 year old in kindergarten, and he is involved in-
4H
Book Club
Art Class
Swimming
and we are about to start yoga in a Mommy and Me class.
That keeps us plenty busy.

I think they'd be extra-curricular anyway unless you've got them as a part of the curriculum.

On a side note, the word curriculum is one of those that isn't naughty, but sure as hell feels that way. Say it out loud "curriculum." See if you blush.

My son does cub scouts. We don't think he's mature enough for karate yet, but when he is he can enroll in it if he wants to. He says he does. The caveat is that he must finish the session or whatever. He can't start something and drop out of it halfway through no matter what it is. We want him to learn that if he starts something, he has to finish it. Unlike momma and the laundry thing.
