I am interested in getting in webcam chatting and playing. Any good web sites to recommend or any other advice to give? :)

http://cowboyfrank.net/webcams/ is the best I found. (ETA) I'd encourage you to go through that site thoroughly, pick out a few models that look good from there and elsewhere, then research and price shop those specific cams. NewEgg.com often has good deals on this stuff, but you may be able to do better on Ebay or elsewhere.

There are some good threads with specific recommendations here if you search a bit.

I went for a Logitech QuickCam IM that was around $20 from Walmart because I needed it quickly at the time, didn't want to spend a lot and that brand had good reviews. For the price and what I've used it for, it's been great. If I were shopping now, I'd definitely get one that could clip onto my LCD and Laptop as well, but that wasn't a requirement back then and this one still works fine for my purposes (plus, it's nice to be able to set it anywhere).

Since I always get requests to cam when I talk about these, I'll save everyone time by saying, No, I do not want to cam or chat with you to anyone who's tempted to PM me with such a request right here. :)

It think it all depends on how much you want to spend? About 5 yrs ago I bought (on sale) an Intel webcam for $5 and it still works great for me. Plus, I've had no complaints from friends that have viewed me. The only problem is the software that came with it was not compatable with todays operating systems. The software is only for the bells & whistles but the cam itself works great.

I recently bought one (Creative webcam Live) on sale for $10 (on sale). I only used it 1 time to test it and I guess it worked. This one comes with an external mic & earbud.

Some webcams have built in microphones and some have better quality then others but as far as the speed goes it all depends on your internet connection.

I am looking for software for this one that allows me to take snapshots (maybe a motion detector) using the cam. A motion detector is where it automatically takes a picture everytime you move. These are the bells & whistles that I had on my old one but does not work on the operating systems used today.

hope that helped..

my opinion: do not spend more then $40 for one & if you can get it on sale then the better..

How about if you just want to view amateurs or individuals on web cams. I like the idea of some voyerism but I'm not sure yet I want to participate myself and be on webcam. Any good sites to recommend for my voyerism fetish :)
