I think this is fantastic news. Wayne La Pierre and his corrupt cronies are exactly why I haven't been an NRA member for over 30 years. His management style and playing fast and loose with the NRA's money drove many people away. Add to that when you are a member you get absolutely pounded with requests for more money. Hell even as a long time non-member I regularly got mail asking me to re-join the NRA and included were so called gifts for donations above and beyond your membership dues. Corrupt as hell and it was obvious to so many. How he got away with it for 30 years is a huge mystery.

As a liberal Democrat, mostly progressive but not extreme, I do support Second Amendment rights, but with sensible regulations, as the vast majority of Americans do, including my fellow Democrats. But in my interest in the issue (I will not claim to be an expert or a scholar on the topic), I've read that the NRA stopped representing the interests of its own members years ago, and now solely represents the interests of the gun manufacturers (and, obviously, their own financial interests). It's a shame that a genuine, once proud and honorable American institution, became twisted and perverted in the hands of grifter assholes like LaPierre. Last I heard, the NRA was virtually bankrupt, thanks to shrinking membership and mismanagement of organizational funds.

Perhaps the organization can survive the corruption and scandal of today and emerge as a renewed stalwart in representing the constitutional rights of gun owners, not fighting for the profitability of the gun manufacturers. I do believe there is a place for such an organization, although I will continue to vote for stricter gun regulation myself.
