If anyone gets an e-mail from sonny@lightening_isp.net, be very careful about opening it. I got one with a virus attached. It was the Kakworm virus.

Yes Thanks for that I'll keep a look out for it now, if I get one I'll just delete it :)

Kaks are pretty harmless. Just annoying.

My roommate has one of those cube macs and I give him no end of grief about it.

Could you tell me what it is? I've got two in Norton Quarantine right now; apparently the files cannot be repaired.

Kak.hta's are worms, not viruses. They are made now so that they can come in through email, even those without visible attachments.

More info can be found here http://www.webkorner.com/support/warnings/kak.htm

If you can see who the emails came from, and need the mail, those folks can easily remove the worm from their system by going through the Start, Find kak.hta, and delete. Otherwise, you can just open quarantine and hit delete.

Dixonbert, as your iMac becomes ever more popular, all the lil hackers will probably start writing lovelies for it, too.

virulently vericose viruses vilely reek.

Another thingymadoodle is firewalls. My ISP sent me to http://www.grc.com to test mine, and I have two, to see how leaky I am. I discovered I'm very very leaky in places I didn't know I leaked. But you can't find most of my ports now and if you do, you can't have access wifout me saying you can! :)

Danke!

Thanks for reminding me Muffs.

I wanted to say thanks to Juliangel for her post a few weeks ago about grc.com. OptOut found two of those advert parasites making a nest on my 'putah and now I took a page from KM's firewall obsession and am running both Norton and ZoneAlarm, which is absolutely amazing for something they give away free.

Muffs, here's an idea for speeding up your uploads, temporarily turn off the firewalls. How ya doin' that on a 56k anywho? :D

Is that what that plastic sleeve on the disks are for? Computer comdoms. Damn, the things I learn here at the BB.

That's true about the iMacs, Bliss, they may get more viruses as they get more popular, but their very design makes them much less likely to ever get infected on a regular basis.

And it's "Dixon". Sheesh. You go to all the trouble of creating a really good fake name and people still want to call you something else.

You like me, you really like me....

Fuck you.

Who said that?

You did.

Did not.

Hello, all!

Shut-up!

Leave him alone.

Who are you talking to?

You!

Ahhhhhhhhhh!

Those other 29 moost be heem, tho!

You win. No it is not completely out of the question.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

But seriously, that name always makes me think of the Mason Dixon line, the Civil War, and so on. It just seems so Southern. Not like a City boy at all.

one more, and this is legit

PASS THIS ON TO ANYONE FOR WHOM YOU HAVE AN E-MAIL ADDRESS Hello
everyone If you receive an email titled "Let's watch TV", DO NOT OPEN
IT.
It will erase everything on your hard drive. This information was
announced, yesterday morning from IBM; AOL states that "KALI" is a very
dangerous virus, much worse than "Melissa," and that there is NO remedy
for it at this time. Some very sick individual has succeeded in using
the reformat function from Norton Utilities causing it to completely
erase all documents on the hard drive. It has been designed to work
with Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. It destroys
Macintosh and IBM compatible computers. This is a new, very malicious
virus and not many people know about it. Pass this warning along to
EVERYONE in your address book and please share it with all your online
friends ASAP so that this threat may be stopped. Forward this warning
to everyone that might access to the internet.

To Dixon

Yeaaa. Another enlightened person. I love BOTH of my iMacs. His and hers, networked!

I don't run a utilities program, just Norton's firewall and ZoneAlarm (Great minds think alike huhm Bliss?). I completely forgot about turning off the firewalls to speedy up the process. Thanks for the reminder!

I normally do my up/downloading at night, start it working, then go to bed. :) lol, it works, okay?

The only upside to my 56k is that everytime I connect, my isp cycles my ip. DSL n Cable n all them other high speed low drag connects are static ip #s. So I never have the same one twice. My hax0r irc chat wannabe hacker pals can't find me ;) until I go into chat. Its coooool.

I also run my mail through a web based server, rather than the local puterstation based outlook. So that way its never actually downloaded onto my puter. Can't wait til Yahoo gets it together with their email system so that attachments are opened on server and not downloaded to be opened on my puter, if I so desire to.

Are we still talking about computers?

:) Yep, you betta believe it. "Ports" are the thingies that your computer uses to talk through to get to the internet. Don't confuse them with the stuff on the back of your CPU. These are all cyberspaced. Data packets pass in and out of your computers "ports" (and there are thousands). If you don't have a firewall, a sheild between your puter and the net, anyone can access your ports. There are port scanners that can go through literally thousands of individual computers in minutes. Oh, yeah, macs have wide open ports too.

Leaks are the information that goes out of your computer that you don't want to know. The biggest leak is your network neighborhood, it broadcasts to all and sundry with portscanners private information, like your name, or whatever you told the puter your name was when you first got it and downloaded your o/s. I bet you didn't know that macs leak too.

IPs, if you're wondering, are just your internet address. The numerical code, like what literotica has, so that you have your "home" on the info superhighway. They pinpoint your computer's cyberlocation. You have to have them. Portscanners, when they find an easy computer to hack (do you store passwords, bank information, credit card # for easy shopping at ebay on your puter?) they record the ip for the person whose being a turd and looking for your personal information. Imacs leak like this too.

Don't have a firewall, get one.

Thanks, but was teasing. I live with 2 computer repair techs so I know way more about the darn silly, darlings then I ever want to know. But the way you wrote that, or maybe I just have a dirty mind, was kinda sexy.
Confused me a little. Not hard to do though.

Heeheeehee I have a dirty mind too. I changed all my whistles and tweets on windows and other programs. My computer moans and groans oh yeah baby, just like that, whenever I open a program and it orgasms lengthily when I shut the program down.

As a side note, cause it hysterical, whenever it does something it can't do, or makes an illegal operation, my computer yells "No!!!! Wrong hole!!!!"

I'm in the gutter. Whose joining me?

THANK GOD & GATES FOR VIRUS SCANNERS

Thanks for the warning, Skibum.
