Vasectomy

I have had a vasectomy, got it done in March.

1. The doctors are not accurate. It hurts longer than they say. Took me about a month to feel normal in everyday situations.
2. I first dared to masturbate about a week after, and Christ did it hurt! A couple days later I tried again, it hurt less...about a week after it felt mostly normal, though I do not wish to try and cock rings.
3. Unfortunately, my ex left me the week before the operation, and I have not been with a woman since. I am sure it will be just fine though.
4. The come looks, smells the same.

Sounds like there's a lot of variation in men's experiences. My dad got it done in the '70's and described whacking off many times a day for the following week, and hiking in the Sierra Madres just 1/2 a week after the procedure.

When the dr. gathered the vas deferens for the cut, my dad said it felt like someone pulling on your tongue from the inside. Weird, eh?

Much props to the fellas

For taking care of business. I FINALLY managed to talk my husband into this and I plan on showing him this thread as he is still very unsure of the procedure.

I am currently pregnant with our THIRD child, in spite of the fact that I was told by my OBGYN that it was unlikely to ever happen again. We knew we didn't want anymore kids after this one and so when he refused to consider a vasectomy initially I had made plans to have a full tubal ligation done immediatley after delivery. He did some research and decided it would be easier, cheaper, and a quicker recovery if he had his boys taken out of comission instead. I think he'll be happy to know that recovery time is quick, and return to action fairly easy.

I think the guy should get it, since it is less invasive than tubal ligation. Good job to your hubby, Mystrskey, he will ge tthrough it well.

My recovery was slow, but I think I overdid it the day of the "procedure" which made it more painful. I drove myself to the Pharmacy and home, which was a no-no, but I had no other realistic choice. Also, I didn't buy supportive enough undies - they really help - along with a couple bags of frozen peas ;) (Ya need at least two so one can be re-freezing while the other is used - trust me - this is the most helpful thing i had after, save the vicodin)

Just have him ask questions, and baby him the day of and for a few days after, and it should be ok, a short memory of pain in a life full of happiness.

Get a sperm count!!

I had a vasectomy years ago, and it sure takes the worry about of being close. Thye only way to tell for sure if you're shooting sperm is to have a sperm count. Almost, I say almost all men have a single vas per testicle, BUT a very few may have more and become very surprised fathers.

I believe the tubes Jenny is referring to is the Vasa Deferentia , or also called Vas Deferens.
Did everyone miss the old joke about the difference between a guy with and without a vasectomy?

There's a vas deferens. (Say it in a southern drawl....)

PS: 3 days to work, 3 days to sex, no noticable difference in desire or ejaculate. Actual loss in opportunity -- she was not happy that after 4 kids exactly 2 years apart that I took uni-latteral action. Yes, she knew, took me to surgery, etc.

I did and waited a week, my doctor suggested two weeks, but ummm well I got feeling better hehe.
My best suggestion, whatever cold drink you prefer, hold it between your legs while watching tv, make that the most strenuous thing you do for a while. Don't get macho and go move the pile of bricks from one side of the yard to the other, just let it heal as long as you can get away with sitting on your butt.

Just a message and wanting to get some help with this.

Had a vasectomy 4 days ago. Was wondering if any other men have had one and how long they waited till they had sex after the surgery.

Had a vasectomy in the mid-80's. Over a month before I gave a damn if I ever had an erection again. Much less sex. Hurt 10 times worse than the docs tell you it will. About in line with being smacked in the balls by a Sumo wrestler weilding a baseball bat. Repeatedly. For days on end.

Best thing I can recommend is lots of 12 year old or olders single malt scotch.

Well - good for all you men out there. Way to be proactive! My question: Do you all get scheduled back to the doc. office for a sperm count? Is that just automatic proceedure? Cuz my dad had the big 'V' back in the '70's and at his follow up check up they found that the tube had somehow grown back. He had to have the whole operation again! Of course he got to brag that he was 'such a man' that it took two times for him! lol

Yes... They scheduled an appointment (bring this cup into the lab) in 3 weeks, and sent me a letter "certifying" my sterility.

Yeah, that was part of the procedure for me. He said to come back in a month with a cup of sperm for them to test. I think it's pretty standard anymore.

oh - well that's good! I bet you guys love that - bringing in the cup! hehehe

Yeah, I had a scheduled appointment. I think it was a month or 3 months later. Just can't remember. The doctor explained that if it does reverse itself, it happens in the first year a VERY large percentage of the time. He said that if it doesn't happen within 2 years the chances are infinitesimal that it will happen after that.

My doctor was great about it. He said that if I ever "just wanted to be sure" that all I had to do was drop off a sample & they would test it for free. I had it tested 3 times - on the scheduled follow-up, after 1 year and after about 2 1/2 years, just to be sure. They even did it while I waited. The office probably thought that either I was paranoid or lust like doing it in a cup (actually it was a container similar to a prescription bottle).

OH! OH! OUCHY!

I second this opinion.
I put off replying to this thread for weeks because it hurt to much to think about it. I had mine ~10 years ago by my local HMO "Surgeon". It hurt A LOT! And my balls swelled up to twice their size for weeks. I think we had sex after a couple of weeks, but, believe me, that was not a big priority at the time.

I don't care for scotch, but several bottles of VO or wine would definitely help. Pay extra and get a GOOD doctor to do it.:(

MagicFingers, I hate to spread fear and loathing, but...

The guy who did mine is the urologist to the medical profession arond here, "The docs dick doc." And it still hurt that bad.
