Variations - Words edition...

Well, we've had a few weeks without rhymes now, so hopefully @Cjbdd`s hives have gone down and we can try again 😜

This week, let's have poems about

School

Whether you loved it, hated it, or wanted to teach the RAF to blow it up, we all went to school...

And the form we'll be using is a quintilla.

Quintillas are 5 lines long, and each line has 8 syllables.
The rhyme scheme is ab, where at least 2 lines have the a rhyme, and at least 2 lines have the b rhyme. The last 2 lines can't rhyme with each other...

As always, have fun, and enjoy!

Her heart full of ideas and dreams
That she was ready to achieve.
Razed to ashes with silent screams,
She retreated, heart on her sleeve
With hopes of return in her schemes.

Years passed, the dream never left her.
Marriage, career, house, and fam'ly,
Time continued by in a blur
Until she said, "What about me?"
Then, her degree she did secure.

Class of 2024🎓

I'm late, I know, I know...

It's been a week 🙈

Hopefully I'll do better this week.

Let's keep it short and simple. It's Guy Fawkes night in UK this week (Google it 😉) so this week I'd like poems about

Fireworks

And we'll use a form invented by other people who'd have been very glad if the English were blown up...

This week's form is cywydd deuair fyrion. That's right, it's Welsh...

So these poems can be as short or as long as you like. They're a minimum of 2 lines long, and each pair of lines is a rhyming couplet. Each line is 4 syllables long.

That's it.

Have fun, be creative and enjoy...

This week, let's have poems on the theme of

Hobbies and pastimes

The form we'll use is a strambotto

Strambottoes (strambottii?) have either 6 or 8 lines (your choice). Each line has 11 syllables, and all the odd numbered lines rhyme with each other, and do the even numbered lines (ababab)

Have fun, and be creative

I need a hobby. What will strike my fancy?
What was that? A woodpecker? Let's go birding!
Birds. Books. Audubon Society. ... Let's see
How about walking? Hiking? Let's go running.
New shoes! New clothes. Whoops, I fell and hurt my knee.
Always searching, I think it's me I'm finding.
I need a hobby. What will strike my fancy?
Music! Maybe today music is my thing.

This week, let's have poems about

People you admire

We'll use a French form, the kyrielle.

The poems have 4 line stanzas, with a minimum of 2 stanzas (you'll see why in a moment)

Each line has 8 syllables.

The last line of each stanza forms a refrain (it's repeated 😉)

And you can choose your rhyme scheme! (Never let it be said I'm anything other than generous). Choose from

aabb
abab
aaab
abcb
That's it!

Have fun, and as always, enjoy!

Whom do I admire, you ask.
When I think of it in due course
It’s plain to me, this easy task.
Why, Manu and Laurel, of course.

They keep this site better than gold.
More precious than the Paris Bourse
May I state their names? Be so bold?
Why, Manu and Laurel, of course.

Some writers come, some writers go
Some write gently, others with force
Who tells miscreants to go blow?
Why, Manu and Laurel, of course.

Chat room mods can often be tough
On those who act with no remorse
By whose rules do they rid the gruff?
Why, Manu and Laurel, of course.

Those with A.I. are shown the door
They protest loudly til they’re hoarse
Who won’t permit that heretofore?
Why, Manu and Laurel, of course.

I will conclude this exercise
All by myself without crowdsource
Whom should you thank and fraternize?
Why, Manu and Laurel, of course.
