I went to watch Hothouse Flowers last week, a band I'd loved since my teens but I'd never seen them before.

The first song of theirs I heard was 'Don't Go', a song that I thought was a love song. It is, but not in the way I thought.

So this poem is a collaborative effort. They just don't know it...


Don't Go

There's a smell of fresh cut grass and it's filling up my senses
And the sun is shining down on the blossoms in the avenue
When I learned the meaning of this song it broke down my defences
