For what seemed the first time in my life I made a decision utterly alone, no one pushing or pulling or guiding or helping or judging. With 50km on my brand new car's odometer I stopped before the storm and took this picture. The photo might make a back page ad somewhere, if there had been lightning in the background. But to me it is one of the best photos I've ever taken

It's the objects flying around the figure that give it such an air of menace for me

Occasionally I take a picture in happy with without mucking around with it. This is one of them. To me, it's pleasing for it's symmetry and scale, and the natural crop I got through the framing

I shoot into the light so often. It's one of my favourite techniques to get the effects I'm looking for...
