You're not the only one to have struggled with silhouettes!Definitely has me questioning what I was going to post tomorrow now.![]()
Neither am I... I honestly wondered what the difference was and did a little research. I thought that other very amateur photographers, such as myself, might also find it interesting or helpful, as the articles also discuss techniques.Guys, it's not a big deal
I was poking (hopefully) gentle fun at @RideFl71, as I think he takes some of the best pics on this thread.
I'm not trying to start a fight![]()
I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anythingNeither am I... I honestly wondered what the difference was and did a little research. I thought that other very amateur photographers, such as myself, might also find it interesting or helpful, as the articles also discuss techniques.
@RideFl71 definitely takes some of the best pics on the thread. I was just trying to have a discussion following both of your comments. I noted the winks and laughs. I guess that I should have added some in myself.
I'll get my coat...
Apparently you should have. I guess I don't have enough insight as to how I come across. If you thought I was being combative, I'm sure everyone else did as well. I'd rather know that than not know and just have everyone thinking that about me.I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything
This certainly helps my inability to read subtext. It can be hard to express tone in a written comment. That's why I usually vomit up emojis all over the place so my intent is clear.
Ironically, except in this postIt can be hard to express tone in a written comment. That's why I usually vomit up emojis all over the place so my intent is clear.
I in no means was fighting or arguing with @Saltfountain .. And I know he was picking on me.. Unfortunately I really don't have what is technically a "Silhouette" photo or haven't found or taken on yet... LolWhile "silhouette" can have different meanings in different contexts, we're talking about photography. The car seems to be the main subject of your photo but is not in silhouette. There are shadows in the photo, but they appear to be there to add an interesting detail and effect to the overall photo, as opposed to being the focus.
"The subject of a silhouette can be people, animals or objects, identifiable by their outline or black shape against a colorful or well-lit background."
"Silhouette photography shows the dark outlines of subjects in front of contrasting, bright scenes such as sunsets or studio backdrops."
ETA: This was also helpful to me in thinking about the difference...
"The terms “shadows” and “silhouettes” are often used interchangeably, but they’re not the same. A silhouette is a dark subject or object against a brighter background. The dark outlines of a subject or object are often depicted before bright scenes, such as sunsets or studio backdrops, to create a dramatic contrast.
Shadow photography differs from silhouette photography in that the object or subject is situated in front of the light source, and its outline is then projected onto a surface as a shadow. While silhouettes and shadows are created using different methods, both can appear in the same photo to create breathtaking results."
