Vanilla Sky

Was it the only one you've seen together?
~poke~

I saw it tonight, too. I was very impressed with the way the viewer (well, this viewer, anyway) was kept guessing about the direction of the underlying reality throughout the entire movie. That's really hard to pull off.

On another front, the shallow front, don't Cruise and Cruz look damn good together? Those lovemaking scenes? I just kept thinking... and they get paid to touch each other like that!

Never and I went to see this movie tonight. I wasn't expecting much at all. She wasn't anticipating enjoying it much either. .

So, you and Never decided to go and blow almost $20 on a movie that neither of you were thinking would be any good? Please tell me there is logic lurking here somewhere?

I'll wait here until you find it. ;)

I and my husband are thinking about seeing this one. I'm pretty excited about it, and I hate Tom Cruise. Cameron Diaz too for that matter.

For the international film buffs (Lavy included), this is based on a Spanish film called "Open Your Eyes"(I think thats the right title.) also starring Penelope Cruz.

For me, personally, Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in a movie together with Cameron Crowe directing is one very large 'Avoid' sign. Ms. Cruz has an actress buried within her, maybe she lost it in customs because it has yet to show in the States.

Penelope Cruz was so bad in "Woman On Top" I had to shut off the tape twice to vomit.

I've seen some of her Spanish work and have to say that it's not her bad bad English but her utter inability to act on the lowest of levels.

Cameron Diaz is very cool. Her abiltiy to shrink herself into a role is proved by "Being John Malkovich" and "There's Something About Mary." She's not just another pretty face if given the chance.

I can't say the same for Pen. Cruz.

I liked his music. Sure, it was a rip off of some of the grittier sectors of hip hop, but it had a nice beat and you could...

Oh. You said Vanilla SKY! My bad...

Never and I have seen these movies together.

Harry Potter
From Hell
The Man Who Wasn't There
Vanilla Sky

Granted, none of the others would I put near the tops of my list, but Vanilla Sky was good. The lovemaking scenes were hot, I must admit.

Lavender ,

You have not seen Ocean's Eleven ? I passed it over for Vanilla Sky and it was a good movie in my eyes . It was funny and so many good looking sexy men ... but I did not really notice the men ... no not I !! ;)

Sunday is when I am off to see Vanilla Sky - hope its as good as you guys say ... :)

How was "From Hell"? I've been wondering about that one. :)

It was okay, but it did not rank high on the Never-o-meter.

I saw it back in December and thought it was very good. I've never liked Penelope Cruz but after Vanilla Sky I had to admit she's actually pretty cute. Still a little thin but that's okay.

I rented Open Your Eyes a couple of months later to see what the original Spanish version was like. Well . . . , it was like the exact same film. I'm not sure how I feel about this whole phenominon of shot-for-shot remakes. I mean, the only thing different is the fact that they're speaking spanish. And Ms. Cruz plays the exact same role.

Is a shot-for-shot remake of a film a worthwhile endeavor? Is it a filmmaking and artistic cop out or is it the moviemaking equivalent of a cover song? I guess the fact that American audiences were unfamiliar with Open Your Eyes made it easier to repackage it with big name stars. A much better final product than the Psycho remake, I guess.

there were elements of it i liked but i found it a little to forced i didnt like the ending either not that i dont enjoy weird endings i just wanted something a little more clever

*** SPOILERS ***

The ending fell flat (no pun intended) for me. Why bother with the last half of the movie if we're just going to punt all that plot and say he was dreaming?

Memento showed how to do this kind of thing brilliantly - with suspense and intelligence, and challenging you to stick with the story. Vanilla Sky was cool up to the point where they just passed the last half of the movie off as useless.

i didnt really like the end of minority report either i guess when i see a decent middle part of a film i expect to much from the ending

AI should of ended with the boy just looking at the blue fairy would of been kind of cold i guess but more of a kubrick ending :)
