Hello everyone. I'm new to Literotica, have submitted three stories since Monday Sept. 24th, and have yet to see even the first move beyond "pending" status - without any "submit an edit" options, etc.

At quick glance I wasn't able to find a forum thread addressing such issues, so I thought I'd likely find response here. I realize there is a three to seven day waiting period, but I've seen numerous new stories appear in the "new" category with a submission date of the 24th, if that necessarily means anything...? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to Lit. and the AH.

The turnaround for story submission and acceptance varies considerably and can range anywhere from one to two weeks. Be patient, enjoy the site, and we'll look forward to seeing your work.

Hi and welcome. :rose: The new stories have a posting date of 24th, not a submission date. You wouldn't know when stories other than yours were submitted. The current waiting period for stories is about week or more.

Welcome!

Also, don't be surprised to see a few "reads" on your stories before they post.

The waiting is the hardest part, even for some around here who've posted multiple stories.

Good luck!

:rose:

One to two weeks. Wow...

K. Thanks for the heads up. I've been on a writing binge lately and thought that if there was the possibility my submissions weren't being received on the other end [for whatever reason], I'd save my work in an e-mail account just in case it, whoops, gets disappeared. Thanks for the info.

Welcome to AH from me as well. :rose: Hope you enjoy your time here. When your stories do post maybe let us lazy ones have a link in here so we can go read them :D

It's so hard waiting for those first stories to be posted!
IMHO, the submission-to-posting time is well worth the wait in order to preserve the very high quality of this site.

Thanks for contributing!

A welcome  for the little newbie from the good little witch.

Welcome :rose:

When I first started submitting it took two weeks for every story I posted. Then, after a while, it seemed to speed up. Not sure if that's because they gave my stories less scrutiny once they were comfortable I wasn't going to use underage characters etc. or what. On the other hand, I think it's been three weeks since I submitted an audio story. I'm told they take forever to post. They take a lot more manual work. Submit and forget about it for a while. Watch pot never boils and all that. :rose:

Thanky for all the input.

The first three I submitted are all similar in structure, written quickly, and of highly gratuitous slam-bam nature, whereby I used exaggerated gonzo porn-esque themes, transposing them into the daily round of suburban life by way of establishing them into the desires of the female protagonist. Certainly not covering new ground lol The titles are very blunt so the reader knows what he/she is in for, whether to read or avoid on the spot, etc

It's the typical switcheroo, where the [porn-wise] traditionally male-driven point of view is instead espoused and implemented by the female. The sort of thing that makes some people role their eyes skyward, admonishing such porn/fantasy as "wishful thinking" on the part of sexist rubes who apparently don't know what women REALLY want.

And no, I don't do non-consentual or underage material at all. Not my thing. From knowing my wife for so long, it's far more interesting to write about the murky waters of the ordinary Girl Next Door's desire for the unorthodox rather than having it forced against her will.

In my view, the girl who wants and chooses something that would gross and freak the average girl out is way more exciting and interesting than the girl who has to be coerced, deceived, forced, etc.

On one hand, my stories are completely unbelievable, so that one person may find it hokey, comical, while another will find it typically lurid, if not grotesque. Yet like most porn, it kindles curiosity as to the desires and fantasies of real, ordinary women, and the worlds they inhabit....which are often quite different than what the surface may signal.

Two of them are anal themed [a major part of my own sex life since meeting the girl who later went on to be my wife. She initiated anal from the get-go, and it's been a central aspect of our sex life for almost twenty years]

But the more interesting story is a twist on the typical bukkake story, and is instead, I think, in terms of the primary theme, Literotica's first gokkun themed story. Bukkake = wearing a lot of semen. Gokkun = ingesting a lot of semen. In terms of, say, loud guitar amplification analogy, bukkake goes to "5," as where gokkun would, in the parlance of Spinal Tap, go all the way to "11."

That is, if you're bothered by bukkake, you'll absolutely detest gokkun! Negativity associated with semen - from the female perspective - is predominant and deeply ingrained in our culture. By default, females are culturally conditioned to have very negative views of semen, which, in part, explains porn's, and men's, never-ending focus on the "money shot," and bukkake/gokkun porn's popularity of recent years.

It depends on your experiences, I suppose. Most people don't like to think about just how their consciousness has been and continues to be shaped by external influences. If you're very vanilla, and have largely surrounded yourself with like-minded people, they're traits and preferences, than much of what is found in porn takes on an unbelievable sense, as in, the person who is repelled by what they're confronted with take comfort in proclaiming that "it's fake!" as a means of trivializing or omitting the fact that there are real people whose sex lives take on elements of what is found in pornography. People often seek strength in numbers i.e. "I don't like it, therefore nobody does, or should, and if you do, there's something abnormal about you."

...or is that Abby Normal ;)

I'd like to take some more time on an upcoming story, perhaps after a few follow-ups to the three already submitted, and offer a story with characters driven by deeper emotional and psychologic strains.

See you around...

Well Igore, I think only Frodrake would think it was so far from reality, but he has been off chasing some monster through the woods the last few days ;)

Another new author

Hi everyone. I've been reading stories at Literotica for about a year now, but this is the first time I've decided to take the plunge and submit a story. It took about a week to be approved, and thanks to the suggestion of a previous poster, I will do my best to link it.

http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=330280

I've read through all of the FAQ guidelines, and still can't find an answer to my questions, so I'm hoping some kind soul will take pity on me and just tell me. I have two questions. One, when a story is set up for public comments, is it considered appropriate to respond to the people leaving comments?

As a new author, I certainly want to encourage feedback on my story, and don't want to be seem rude by not replying. On the other hand, it seems that in order to reply, I must rate my own story.

Which leads me to my second question. Would that be considered "vote tampering?" A friend who read my story noticed that she could vote more than once on it. She voted on it twice before I told her to please not vote anymore, since that might be grounds for having my story disqualified. I want my work to stand on it's own, and don't need to have my friends spamming the vote.

Thanks in advance for your patience, and I look forward to getting to know the people behind the stories that I've enjoyed here these past few months.

Hi and welcome. About answering public comments, sure you can, but I don't really think people will come back to check your reply. You can vote on your own story. Voting multiple times on a story will make the votes get 'swept' or deleted.

Thank you damp, now I won't worry about seeming rude if I don't reply to the public comment board. It's also good to know about the votes. Not that I kid myself that my story will win any prizes, I'm not that egotistical, but I do hope to eventually write something praise-worthy before I die.

I will be updating my bio shortly to include a little background, but for the moment, it's a wasteland, so please don't bother. I'm also sure I saw a thread for new authors to introduce themselves, but I'll be dammed if I can find it now. This is my first foray into the forums, so bear with me. I'll get it eventually.

Gee, Kajunheat,
You should have posted this in the Feedback Forum and we would ream... I mean give you our honest and helpful opinion of your story. :)

Welcome to the madhouse. :D Don't worry about vote tampering, Lit regularly gets rid of votes it deems "illegal" (although sometimes there is a great deal of controversy about how that happens ;) ). The advice I got when I started was to never make a comment on the PC section (although I regularly email or PM people who say kind things), it just invites people to try to antagonize you for fun by saying mean things (even if they liked or never read your story). Just take some time to lurk the boards and you'll catch on quick. The people here are friendly (as long as you stay away from politics or religion  ). There are some excellent writers, many who have published pieces, and most love to pass on advice (in fact we can rarely stop them :D ).

Like I said, welcome to the madhouse. :rose:

That's one of the wonderful things about the Author's Hangout.

It seems everyone here knows every reference to Mel Brooks, Monty Python, the Airplane movies, you name it.

It's fun.

PC etiquette: don't write comments in your own PC list. It's vulgar.

Having said that, if they leave their name then feel free to contact them otherwise.

Voting on your own story is mandatory. As long as you're honest.

Not commenting on your own story avoids feeding the trolls.

As long as the comments are about the story and not personal attacks never remove PCs.
However. This is open to debate, some will argue that PCs left that are about the characters ("He should have gotten his muther pregnant" "She should of cut of his cock") Should be purged. Some argue that PCs about the situation ("That would never happen in real life") should be deleted.

I say leave 'em all. Your story made the posters at least react if not actually think.

PS Hello and welcome Strange and Kajun

Everyone should know about those movies, but I've run across a few people who didn't get Monty Python quotes. Not to mention most of the current college crowd below the age of 24 don't get the Airplane quotes.

I hear that Flight of the Concords is becoming the "thing" now. :cattail:

Hahahaha.......I'm too scared to now. From the little I've seen while looking around for the new author's "introduction" thread, you guys would have a field day with it. Don't get me wrong, I can take honest opinions, and even a jab or two about my writing, but this story was never meant to be my first submission. I was actually in the process of writing another story that I intended to submit, a story that was much more erotic, but this one just wouldn't shut up. I'm sure you guys know exactly what I mean. Some stories just write themselves, for better or worse.

I wasn't even sure I was going to submit it, because I don't feel it's my best work. In the end, I decided I would go ahead and get my feet wet with it and obsess over whether it was the right decision later.

Thank you. That's most helpful. It only received 3 comments, so it's not like I have to do any serious housecleaning, but it's good to know I can should I choose to.

We are alway honest in our opinions, Kajunheat. Sometimes we are a little rough, but not that often. Those of us who spend a lot of time in the Feedback Forum reading and commenting, really do care and want to see the overall level of writing skills inprove for all writers.

The new writers are just like I was when I first started. I thought it was easy. It is easy, but there are a lot of things that need to be learned before it becomes easy. Even in our sillyness, we will always point you in the right direction and, hopefully, see your skills improve over time.
