Unexpected Love

Kia Blackman sat in the park for hours .. She felt like she couldn't move.. She couldn't think.. She knows she must look crazy sitting in a wedding dress sobbing a few hours ago she was at the altar with the love of her life and all it took was her catching her fiancee in the act with a bridesmaid for her life to crumble all around her and taking off from the chapel then everything else was a blur..

She couldn't remember what happened after but she was awake in the hospital now she looked around seeing herself seeing her mother sobbing and and her dad looking extremely worried she looked at them and tried to speak but couldn't her throat was too dry..instead she teared up and couldn't help but cry she just wanted to be alone.

At 23 she had been a successful business owner, dated a writer and they were engaged. It all happened so quick and she wondered who had found her after shed run off. She glanced outside her room window and gasped catching a pair of piercing blue eyes watching her and a gorgeous face to match. "Who is he?" She thought

Nick Fortune was walking through the park. He had been at a rare Saturday business meeting and once it was over he decided to take a walk through the park and enjoy the beautiful day. As he walked through the parked he noticed a woman sitting on a bench in a wedding dress. He didn't think anything of it at first, but then noticed that she was slumped over.

He walked over to the woman to check on her. He called out to her first, and then he shook her shoulder a little. When he didn't get a response, he checked her for a pulse. She had one, but it was faint. He took out his cell phone and dialed 911. He told the operator the woman was unresponsive and that he would meet the ambulance at the edge of the park.

Nick picked her up and carried her to the edge of the park. The EMTs took her and rushed her to the hospital, which was only a block away. Nick walked down to the hospital. He had to know if she was okay. He went into the hospital, but they wouldn't share any information, because of HIPPA laws. He decided to wait. He could see her, and then her family was ushered in. He continued to watch and he saw her ask who he was.. Her mother spoke to him. "I found her in the park. I just wanted to know if she was okay. I'll leave if I am upsetting her."

Kia heard the man say he would leave then she suddenly shouted "no" as her voice was a bit cracked. She was given a cup of ice chips to chew for her dry throat. She remembered clearly now.. She had ran about 10 blocks away from the wedding to the local pub. She had drunk alot there and bought a bottle along with her. She got to the park and sat and began sobbing again. After a while she had taken pills anything that was innher purse and then she passed out. She needed to thank the man.

He saved her life and she was very grateful for that because she hadn't been thinking clearly.

Nick stopped when he heard the woman say "no." He turned back around and looked at her. Nick did not want anyone to make a big deal out of this...he certainly wasn't going to. He had only come to the hospital to make sure the woman was okay.

He wasn't sure what have wanted. He was surprised that she was awake so quickly considering the condition she was in when he found her. The doctors and nurses had done great work and now she was sitting up. He continued to look in at her from the doorway. He wondered what had happened...why she had done what she had done. While they had been working on her, he heard doctors and nurses talking of an overdose. Why had she done that on her wedding day?

Kia looked straight at him as he stood in the doorway" Please...come in" she said in a soft voice. Her mother heard her and came to usher him at her daughters request. Kia looked sad but better than hed found her. Her father watched him intently his daughter was hurting and he hadn't known why.

Kia patted the bed beside her and asked her parents to give them some privacy and they reluctantly left the room.

Nick walked into the room when the woman's mother came to get him. He walked in slowly. He wasn't sure what had happened, but he was happy that the woman appeared to be okay. When she asked her parents to leave and she patted the bed, he walked closer to her and stood next to her bed.

"I am really glad to see you are doing better. I am not sure what happened, but you were in pretty bad shape at the park. I don't want to intrude on your family time. I just wanted to make sure you were okay. I am happy to see you sitting up in the bed."

Kia smiled and shook her head " Its fine its just... I wanted to thank you. I had the worst day yesterday actually. Walked in on my husband to be and a bridesmaid having at it on my wedding day. I was broken.... but im glad you found me and I can't thank you enough. Im Kia by the way.. " she said rambling nervously. " You must think im crazy or something right? You know finding me passed out like that... I don't even remember half of how i got there I waa just so angry.

Nick listened to her as she rambled on. When she told her story, he partially understood why she was in the condition he found her. Not that he thought that was the answer to anything, but people handle the stressful situations in their life differently.

"Hello Kia, my name is Nick. I am just glad that I had that meeting yesterday and that it ended when it did. I am not usually around on Saturdays, but yesterday was the rare exception. I am happy I was there. I am sorry you had such a bad day. The guy must have been an ass to do that to you. After all, you are very attractive, and you seem to have a bit of fire about you."

Kia blushed as he called her attractive. She and James had been dating since college and thisnwas the first time she had been attracted to another man. She knew one thing for sure. She was going to make James pay.

" He was an ass! I cant believe he did that and hes definitely going to see me in court" she said. " Im fine now Nick... I just need someone to be there for me... I loved him butnit was obvious he didn't have the same feelings for menor he wouldn't have done that.. Thank you again... I'm sure you have a family worried about were you are right now" she aaid

Nick listened to her ramble again. It was very obvious that she had a lot of things running through her head and that she was in a very fragile emotional state. It was good that she had her mother and father with her to take care of her and look out for her during this tough time.

"No, I don't have any family in the city. I moved here for work a couple years ago and have basically been married to my work since then. I am just really happy you are going to be okay. I don't want to keep you from your family. It was really nice to meet you Kia, even though the circumstances were not ideal. I hope everything works out for you, and I hope that he pays for what he did to you."

Kia saw the man wanted to go and she didn't want him to leave. " Your not keeping me from them" she said softly. She was interested in her hero and wanted to know more. She grabbed his hand and said " Do you mind staying? There isnt much I can talk about with my parents you know" she said and giggled. " Tell me about your work... what do you do?"

When Kia grabbed his hand it was very obvious that she wanted him to stay for a while. She confirmed this by asking him to stay. He knew what she meant about her parents, and he was sure her parents would never understand what it was that she was going through. They probably had no idea yet why she had even run off.

"Well, I am in commercial real estate here in the city. I have several clients who are always looking for property. They buy it and then lease the store fronts out, and they rent out the office spaces or. apartment units that are normally above it. They keep me busy. I sometimes even end up working weekends...like yesterday."

He enjoyed talking with her. Hug wasn't sure why, but it was just easy to do. "Listen, Kia, I am not a hero. I just did what every normal person would do if confronted with that situation. I just happened to be the first one along when you needed help. I am just glad I could help out."

Kia smiled and squeezed his hand " Not sure if everyone would've done that Nick" she smiled " but im glad you found me superman" she joked sitting up more in the hospital bed. She liked himmand wanted to see more of him after today there was something special about him. "So ummm Nick. I want to have a chance to thank you properly... theyre going to keep me here a few days but when im out do you think I could treat you to dinner or drinks... if thats ok with you" she blushed. " I-I mean.., just to thank you it doesn't have to be a date or anything" she said rambling again then being quiet not wanting to embarrass herself anymore.

"Kia, you do not have to treat me to dinner, drinks, or anything else. Like I said, I didn't help you for any other reason than it was the right thing to do. I would, however, be more than happy to meet you for dinner, drinks, or whatever you would like. We can call it a date, or a business meeting, or anything you want to call it." He smiled at her.

He squeezed her hand as she squeezed his. He was not naive. He had a feeling that Kia was in the need of company after finding her soon-to-be husband with one of her bridesmaids. He just happened to be the one in close proximity. "I will leave you my card. If you still want to get together when you get out you can give me a call. If I don't hear from you, I will totally understand."

Kia smiled and nodded. She knew Nick might feel like the rebound guy right now but she honestly liked the guy. She could tell he was nice and she wanted to know him more " Yes id like that "she said taking his card.

She asked for a pen and wrote hers down as well. " And here is my number... just in case you want to call or anything while im here " she smiled.

Nick took Kia's number, and put it in his wallet. He wasn't sure he would do anything with it. He certainly would like to see Kia again, if only to make sure that she was doing okay. He would, most likely, leave it up to her.

"I am going to let you rest. I hope you feel better, and, hopefully, we will get to see one another once they spring you from here." He leaned down and kissed her on the cheek. As he backed away, he winked at her. On the way out, Nick stopped and spoke briefly with Kia's parents, before heading toward the exit.

Kia smiled as he left he was sweet but she was sure he just being nice. The most hed want her was probably as a friend. She drifted off to sleep shortly after and she felt content.

She stayed in the hospital a few days after and decided she would text him because she for some reason couldn't get him out of her mind. " Nick? Its Kia" she texted

Nick went to work on Monday and was busy throughout the day. When he got back to his apartment that night, he was thinking about Kia. He wondered how she was. He had not heard from her, so he figured that she was having second thoughts about meeting.

On Tuesday, Nick had a day of meetings planned. While he sat at a coffee shop between meetings he got a text. It was from Kia. He responded by asking her how she was doing. He was tempted to ask if she wanted to meet that night, but decided to take it slow. "Are you out of the hospital?

Kia smiled when he texted back " I did yesterday night. They kept me until they were sure I was fine and then I signed myself out. My parents went back home after I assured them I was ok and now im back in my old apartment. " she texted back as she sat on the couch. She was glad she hadnt moved in with James yet. They planned on doing so after the honeymoon.

She burned everything he left in her place in her fireplace and most things hed gotten her except expensive things. She planned on selling those and giving the money to charities. She was officially done with him. He hadnt even visited her once and from that she knew he didn't care.

He texted her back. "I am glad you are out of the hospital. I hope you are feeling stronger." He knew she must be having a tough time of it. She was all alone when she had expected to be on her honeymoon now. It sucked.

"If you still want to meet up, let me know. Tell me when and where you would like to meet and I will." He decided to just put it out there. He wasn't sure whether she still did, or not, but she was the one who initiated the contact, so, he wanted to let her know he was still open to it.

Kia smiled looking at the text. " Id love to meet up. Im free tonight if you are hows 8 for you " she texted having moved to her room the tickets for her honeymoon were for tomorrow. She had both thier tickets, his suitcase which she planned on selling all his clothing and the money he left in th suitcase for Fiji. Allnof itnwas being donated except the tickets of course she still planned on going she just would move them to later flights and first class.

She smirked thinking about it. When she meant James would pay.. she meant it and she planned on helping others while hurting him . He hadn't even called her

He was surprised when she got back to him so fast and that she said that she wanted to meet tonight. He looked at his calendar. His last appointment was at 4:30, so, he should have no problem meeting her.

"That will be fine. You pick the place. I am okay if it is close to you. That would probably be best for you....less stress getting across town. Let me know where you would like to go, and I will be there." He was looking forward to a nice evening with her.

Kia smiled she appreciated how nice he was being. She didn't want to come off as desperate or needy but right now she just needed someone to talk to she hadnt even called her best friend who was in labor and couldn't make it to the wedding to tell her what happened she hadnt wanted to worry her.

She texted back and said " How about King Xaos downtown?" It was a few blocks away and she didnt mind walking. It would be a good walk for her.

"Great. I will see you there at 8." After he sent the text, he got up from the table and headed off to his next meeting. The afternoon flew by and his meetings went very well. He was in a good mood when he got back to his apartment. He decided to shower, change, and get to the restaurant a little early.

Nick arrived at King Xaos at around 7:30. He told the hostess that he wanted their best table and that he would be joined by a lady friend. When the hostess got him the table in the window, he smiled at her and followed her to the table. He tipped her after she seated him. He asked the waitress for a water while he waited.

Kia wore a simple black dress and heels and walked enjoying the night air over to Xaos. She arrived at the restaurant about 10 minutes after Nick and saw him seated at the table. She greeted him with a hug and sat across from him giving a smile and the waitress seated her.

" Its nice seeing you" Kia said and smiled
