LEESBURG, Va. — Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue has been a member of President Donald Trump's Cabinet for just a week, and he's already taking on Michelle Obama's nutrition legacy — that, and whole-grain biscuits.

The former two-term GOP governor of Georgia had lunch with students in the cafeteria at Catoctin Elementary School here and then signed a policy directive that says the Department of Agriculture will try to let local leaders decide what children eat while at school.

The School Nutrition Association, which represents more than 55,000 professionals who run school cafeterias, praised the Trump administration for reining in some of the requirements. The group, which gets roughly half of its funding from the food industry, has fought for years to relax key parts of the updated school nutrition standards, because the reforms at some schools led to waste and fewer children participating in the program, not to mention cost spikes in some instances.

Ouch, school lunch cost spikes.
They shouldn't have stepped in, Michelle Obama's School Lunch Rationing would have been a hilarious headline.

The pathetic portions schools now give children in the name of "combating obesity" are neither tasty nor filling. Schools toss at least 40% of the meals that aren't eaten because kids opt for the vending machines instead.

Denny

Well sonny, when I was in school we walked ten miles in deep snow up hill both ways year around. We carried a metal Roy Rogers dinner pail and had one peanut butter and jelly samwich. We drank well water and had a stale cracker for desert.

The thread title has more sizzle than the topic.

And everyone thinks that bacon makes everything better...

Soon it'll all be leathery steak with ketchup, marks ny words.
