That's pretty cool.

I've done a few panorama pics for relatives...mainly of places I've been...and a couple of our house.

I would love to do something like they did on this website though.

Thanks.

Wow...this is awesome...I love history and to see the changes are amazing.

Yes, it is pretty interesting - I love to see before and after pics like that, I also like to see old photos of places I know fairly well. There are a lot of old photos of the Seattle area in restaurants around here I always like to see how Seattle has changed over the 100 years, and just how undeveloped it used to be.

I haven't yet figured out how he did this.

If you look close at the mountains, you'll notice there are only 2 or 3 different types of mountains. So he just scaled them in 3 different sizes, imposing the larger ones over the smaller ones.

Yes, but I am more interested in how he did the sliding animation layers. I haven't quite figured out the JS code just yet - but it is a cool way to do such animation. At first I thought it was Flash as it would take a huge GIF file to do that kind of seamless animation within the file itself.

True...that's one hell of a filesize for a GIF. But it's definitely something looped back over itself to appear more complicated than it is. It would certainly be nice to know the tools and code for an effect like that.

The code is contained in this page:

http://www.kokogiak.com/webtools/mtns.html

You have to view the source for the page. The GIF itself is not an animated GIF, it is all done with the code in that page.
