Those on the MB with Tattoos, alittle help please?

Kiwi, perhaps the different products artists use are based upon what ink they're using? I have no idea if there is an industry standard for ink or if artist choose whatever ink they prefer.

Your post made me wonder if that just might be the case for such a wide range of suggestions from various tattoo artists.

From what I understand, all tattoo inks are based around pigments made by one company...ICI. How the pigments are processed varies from one ink manufacturer to another, but the processes are so similar that there is bugger all difference. I'm honestly not sure whether or not there is an industry standard as such, but I would think there is. :)

Cool :)

I'm still curious as to why there is such a wide variety, most of them so conflicting as to how the various artists instruct customers how to care for their tattoos.

From what my tattoo dude says, it comes down to training and how long they have been in the industry. Also region has a lot to do with it. A lot of the old timers have a hard time moving with the times. this is reflected in attitudes towards modern tattooing. There is a guy here in town who wont do anything but traditional... he wont look at celtic or tribal work. He is a proponent of the Vaseline treatment. I had a small piece done by him and will never go back. The work was ok, but the tattoo went bad and needed touch up work. He did it for free but the whole attitude was wrong. I followed his instructions to the letter, but it still turned ratty. That's when I started really researching tattooing and tattoo care.

Hm. Now I don't know what to do.

All of mine have been cared for in the same way, and ended up looking just fine. I love them all and have felt perfectly comfortable with the procedures because they've always worked.

I've been going to the same place, two different artists.

Do I keep following their instructions, or go with what you've posted?

About the itching of healing sores (tattoos)

As a body arts professional, and a body with more than his fair share of modifications, I can tell you that what you were doing was fine. I recommend bacitracin to my customers and use it myself, as your tattoo is basically an open wound that needs to be treated as such.

Do you know of any reason that a product like Solarcaine (tm) that contains Benocaine, Lidocaine, or other topical anesthetic would be bad for tattoos?

I've used Solarcaine and Orajel both to stop the itching of various scrapes and cuts as they heal as well as sunburn pain. It doesn't seem to me that either product would work well to stop people from sratching at the scabs on a nw tattoo.

Angel, if what you have been doing so far works... far be it from me to change any part of it. you do what feels comfortable to you. Could I suggest though that you add the Vitamin E cream to your care regime. It really does help heal the tattoo. I use it for at least a fortnight after the tatt has healed.

I've tried to find the Tattoo and Piercing thread you posted your pics on, but so far no luck... I'll have another go later.

You're a cool lady Angel.:)

Ew sorry, never had any scabbing or problems with either of mine and was able to remove the bandages after the 3rd day. I kept them clean and dry and just dabbed them with antiseptic twice a day. Vitamin E cream does work really well too, as Kiwiwolf suggested.

Sugar Bear, who does mine, was recommended by several friends who were avid tattoo-ees, and he's been in the business for probably 30 years or so. Yes, he's a rough and tough biker, but he has the most gentle hands :)

I have seen his work in Tattoo magazine. He does awesome work. My own tattoo dude knows him well... the tattooing community is pretty incestuous at the upper echelon. :D

Bah you all are just confusing me more :-/

I have lotion Vaseline Intensive Care lotion

Advanced healing with vitamin E is that good enough?

I use that or Rosken Skin repair... Use it for a while after the tatt is healed as well. It keeps the skin around the tattoo supple which will stop cracking. Believe me it works.

You have a lovely tattoo there Mistress. It will look great when it is healed.

Thank you...so no more of anything except for that fucking lotion....damn thing is going to give me another ulcer.....
