The video game thread

Currently hooked on Call of Duty. Amazing gameplay, fantastic multiplayer.

And of course my fall back online game. WWIIOnline. Been with this since it was in Beta as a beta tester and still play.

My buddy (with the airzooka) showed me that game the other day, too. Very nice.

OK, GTA3 is interesting. The advice to get the lay of the land with the taxi, fire truck etc., was perfect. I just made it to the second island.

Interesting game. I find that my least favorite part is the "walking with weapons" parts. The controls are tough to switch to the next person that's shooting at you. I have to back up against a wall or something to account for that, or else I die too quickly. The whole fun of the killing isn't as great because of that. Drive-by shootings are a blast, though.

The rest of the game is very nice, though. What a big environment. Fun to explore, and fun that there are so many ways to accomplish things. I also like the leisurely way you can explore and do things.

It seems that you could make similar games without the blood and death and still capture all of the positives. Like the Simpsons Hit and Run - they did a nice job with that game.

So I endured the hell of shopping on Black Friday just to feed my video game addiction. I went to Target to buy the Donkey Kong Country/Lime Gameboy Advance SP deal, and I have to add that it is SO pretty! :D Then I stood outside of Best Buy for an hour and a half just to get the upgrade to my cell phone, which was on sale for $40 cheaper than usual. Anyway, I got in the store finally and then stood there for two and a half hours waiting to pay. While in line and next to the X-box games I gave in to temptation and bought Need For Speed Underground. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

It is my new addiction. I love street racers and I get to design my own. I'm in heaven playing this game.

I miss having an Xbox... Actually I don't miss the games so much as I do miss all the music I was able to store on it!

Maybe after Xmas.. they are getting cheaper and cheaper every few months or so.

Meanwhile I get my copy of FFX-2 on Wednesday! :D

About two months ago I lent it to a co-worker at the time who a few days later not only quit his job but skipped out of town totally with my Xbox and a few games.

If I ever track him down I'm gonna kill the sumbitch... Best I can figure he moved back to his home in Ontario but I'm not sure. And of course the local police have no clue on how to track someone outside of the local area.

Yup, moved a little under a month ago, although it seems longer because for a while I had moved out of my apartment and lived with a couple of friends to save some money for a move.

I'm just now starting to get settled here (just outside of Edmonton, I'll be sure to give you a long ass PM at some point and fill ya in on the details ;)) and have been enjoying almost every minute of the move. (An EB store is a two minute walk from work.. it doesn't get much better than that! :D)

I don't know, there is alot to like about Xbox.. The music saving feature being one. Xbox Live is light years ahead of what PS2 has as well. Game selection hasn't been the greatest for Xbox, but it seems to be getting better.

Hey all. I've been playing quite a few games lately, so I'll give you the run down. Prince of Persia is a great adventure game, but it's over way too fast. Do yourself a favor and rent and beat it in a week. Awesome game. Rainbow Six 3 is pretty cool, but if you can't get on Xbox live, it's pretty much just a rental since it has no offline multiplayer. Crimson Skies is a great game you should check out. Tony Hawk's Underground is exactly what you expect a Tony Hawk game to be. Max Payne 2 is fairly cool...if you hated the first one, you'll hate this one. If you liked the first one, you'll love this one. And last but not least, Need for Speed Underground is a very, very good game. Word to the wise though: DO NOT finish race 112 or 113 until you've done all the upgrades on your car you want to, because it prevents you from customizing it from there on out...in other words, buy every single part you possibly can before those races so you'll have them to customize the other cars in quick race mode with. And when someone tells me how to get the other magazine covers without completely replaying the game I'll greatly appreciate it. :)

There...I think that sums up what I've been doing the past few months. God I'm a dork.

I am waiting for Tokyo Extreme 3 (PS2) to come into the store ... I have been playing more GBA games than anything else right now ...

Harvest Moon
Yu-Gi-Oh Sacred Card
Shining Soul

i agree but the game gets me sick if i play it to long so not buying it here, even if i just watch it for to long i feel nauseus (sp?) and dizzy but i might get smackdown: here comes the pain tommorrow :D

Smackdown: HCTP is pretty good really. It's a marked improvment over SYM for sure. The game play is much much better and the wrestlers are finally starting to look likw their real life counterparts.

The only thing it lacks is a bigger season mode. It's good right now and for the most part keeps a guy involved, but it only lasts a calander year (April to March of the following year, ending right at Wrestlemania 19) and then sees some of the same story lines followed the next year you try to play.

The game is worth getting just for the Elimination Chamber matches though. :D

Am I the only one here that is a big Syphon Filter fan? I can't wait until the next one comes out.

thing is though any game that comes out for the xbox will be out on other systems.

if not it will come out on the PC
that's why i'd go with PS2 or gamecube

Past few months? More like, the past few weeks.

Fly...who gives a flying rat's ass who plays what system, at least we're playing games. Plus, games for PS are coming out for other systems so it's not like it's so superior that it's games haven't crossed over at all. I mean hell, I'm getting Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City for my Xbox....so calm down...

You wouldn't believe how your own soundtrack on a game makes it better. Especially a racing game.

i know alot of people who are like you, but gave in due to one thing or another where a game they liked is concerned, like me i couldnt stand x-box its to damn heavy and some of the games suck, but certain ones make me want the infernal machine go figure, but only time will tell if i get it or not,

I think that's exactly the thing. There are games on the GC and PS2 that will only appear on those systems; Zelda and Final Fantasy being two of the bigger examples. The X Box seems to have very few of these kind of exclusives, since most of their killer-apps do end up on these other systems or at least on PC. On the face of it, especially looking at the library of games, I find it really hard to imagine choosing the XBox over the other two current gaming systems. The online component is really the systems only saving grace, but lets remember that onling gaming did nothing to prevent the premature death of the Dreamcast, and that broadband is still in a minority of people's homes. If the relative success of the XBox to this point can be attributed to anything, it is purely by branding. That's actually no small achievement, given how hard Nintendo has had it trying to position itself in the current market.
