The video game thread

Hey Johnny, good to hear from you. I don't know if the roll call is scaring everyone away or not...I hope not, as it was just something so that we could all talk more. Cibo hasn't been here in awhile...I mean, yeah, we make fun of his av...but we miss the guy anyhow.:(
So come on everyone....let's talk about games...even though I know a lot of you are waiting for Christmas to get some more...least I am:D

Ok, here's a gaming question. Has anyone played Persona for the PSX? It's an older game (1996), but a fun one nonetheless. And . . . interesting to say the least.

I have played like a lil bit of it ... I don't have it any more cos I needed more room for more games so I weeded out some of my stuff.

Its a really nice 1st gen PS game. I wonder if they will bring it to the GBA?

I have at least two new games lined up and coming my way in a weeks time.. MK5 is going to be one of them.. I'm not sure but I may just get Nascar 2003..

I guess I'll know soon enough. :)

My next X-box game is Metal Dungeon ... I think thats tomorrow. Then Vexx in January (also X-Box)

I asked about Persona because I was currently going through it again, but it doesn't have to be addressed. What I'm more curious about is who's played BMX:XXX yet. Is it any good? Seriously, does having nudity make it any . . . better?

I haven't checked into Lit for some five days now because of the impending holiday climax. Trying to square off buying gifts with my procrastinating nature always results in turmoil.

Concerning the roll-call, I have ICQ, but I rarely launch it. I do have AOL IM though. E-mail (@yahoo.com) works fine too.

My friend (who now works at EB) found a copy of Shining Force 2 lurking around in there and is holding it for me! Kick ass!

For anyone who has played Samba de Amigo - One simple idea: PYT (Michael Jackson). Samba dressed in disco clothes. It would be beyond awesome. If I were to commission a new Samba, it would also include J. Lo's Ain't It Funny, and this song they play on the spanish radio station all the time, but who's title eludes me because I don't speak spanish.

I'm just waiting 'til the 24th. I'll be quite eager to unwrap some gifts... and see my brother's reactions to getting GTA:VC and Legaia 2: Dual Saga.

After Christmas I expect everyone to come in here and say what they got. :D

I know I will hehe

And on a sidenote ALL of my shopping is FINALLY done!!!! *dances*

I've been missing out on this thread in my absence.

War of the Monsters - yeah it's nice.

BMX XXX? Nudity for nudity's sake doesn't help anything, it just gives the "video games turn people into rapists and murderers" the game they need to try to get the govt. to regulate game content.

At least no one here is admiting to owning a gamecube or dreamcast! :D [/B][/QUOTE]

Well, I guess I get to be the one. Bought a Dreamcast when they first came out. So much for doing your homework. That's one reason I'm leary about buying any new consoles. It's, like, which one will be the next dreamcast. Mostly now I like the flying sims on the computer.

The Dreamcast is civilization!

Well I have one. Needed it for games like Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Capcom vs SNK.

Then cam RE Code Veronica, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and few other things.

I had to buy a GameCube to play Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 4.

Then I tried Metroid Prime, which led me to want to try the new Zelda.

The upcoming holiday has kept me off lit, and the internet, for a good week or so. Add in the fact that my friends are all home from school, and things get messy. Hopefully i'll be getting some good games...i really want Rocky, Rygar, and Dead to Rights. We'll see....

On the gamecube front, LTR, who's been absent for awhile now, was our resident Gamecube player. Cibo and LT were our X-Boxers, and Myself, SB, and Pez were the PS2 people. Pez has gone over to the X-Box darkside though:D

I miss this thread, a wicked lot. I miss lit and i miss my friends from here. I'm thinking of all of you, believe me. No one has been forgotten, at all!

There shall be no dissing the Dreamcast while I prowl this thread. How Sega handled the machine is a shame - the system will never see it's full potential as a result of Sega's mistakes with the Saturn and their commital to fully disreagrd the machine as of 1/2001. But if you are a Dreamcast owner and do not like it, I think you have problems. It has most every game genre imaginable, all with great titles to them:

RPG: Skies of Arcadia (also coming souped up to GameCube), Grandia II, Shenmue, Shenmue II (import)
Platformers: Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure II
Shooters: GigaWing 2, Mars Matrix, Ikaruga (import)
Light Gun: House of the Dead 2
Driving: Metropolis Street Racing, Tokyo Extreme Racer, Tokyo Extreme Racer II
Fighting (2D): Marvel vs. Capcom, Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Fighting (3D): Soul Caliber, Dead or Alive 2
Puzzle: Mr. Driller
Party-ish Games Samba de Amigo, Samba de Amigo 2000 (import), Ooga Booga
Miscellaneous: SeaMan, Typing of the Dead

Yeah, I didn't list Sports titles, but that's because I'm not a big sports gamer, so i can't truly say. They have every major sport covered (NBA, NFL, Soccer, NHL, Tennis, MLB, College Basketball + Football, Wrestling). I can't imagine they're all bad.

It came equipped with a modem, and had a variety of online games (PSO, Sports titles, Ooga Booga to name a few). And until Sega's fiancial woes hit them smack-in-the-face, it was all free. And yes, a broadband adapter was released for it.

So far as I'm concerned, the VMU is a great idea. While it needn't be attached to the memory card, I don't see why controllers don't come with a little video screen (aside from the GBA/GC link-up). Sport's titles would take off, keeping your opponent on their toes.

Technically, it's powerful enough to properly emulate the PlayStation (see Bleemcast, specifically Gran Turismo 2 and Metal Gear Solid), so it's got ommph to it. Considering it came out in 1998 (it came stateside in 1999), that's not too shabby. Graphically it's crisp and fluid. Granted, games like Soul Caliber were based off of Arcade engines and were fully realized while the DC was still being designed, but the conversion speaks wonders as to what the DC can put out. Frankly (and IMHO), only now are PS2 game developers putting out games graphically that are surpassing what games like Soul Caliber, Skies of Arcadia and Shenmue have already put out.

If you own a Dreamcast and have a CD Burner, then you can join in the Dreamcast Homebrew community that exists today. Ever since pirates have been burning games to the system, the homebrew community has been writing their own games to the system. Some are emulators of older systems (NES, SMS, GB+GBC, WonderSwan Color, Genesis, SNES), but many are original games and applications. Being able to watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force d/l'ed from the internet on my Dreamcast is great, since Cartoon Network probably won't re-run those episodes for a while. Anyone can program for the system - the tools are all free.

The DC also has great titles that you simply won't find anywhere else. Sure, in Gitaro Man (PS2), you can conduct an orchestra with your controller. In Dreamcast's Samba De Amigo, you could control Maracas shaking, with actual maracas!!! I'm sorry, but I truly love this game. And if you like DDR then you'll love this game too. Then there's SeaMan, where the microphone is a requirement to talk to your sarcastic, sharp-tongue'd virtual pet. Virtual On is crazy-japanese anime-robot fighting with the Arcade-grafted Twin Sticks Controllers. Typing of the Dead to put the DC Keyboard to good use aside from the webrowser - basically House of the Dead 2 where you use words to kill the zombies - complete with your characters running around with keyboards and Dreamcasts strapped to their backs.

I could go on and on, but my post is getting long enough as it is already.

Don't tell me the Dreamcast sucked. :)

I am a PS2 person as well.. system kicks ass,

I have to concur.

LOW was terrible.

If you need a wrestling game to play....go for Smackdown or something heh.

Hey Phoenyx, we seem to share some gaming likes. We should compare notes later.

I rented smackdown shut your mouth for PS2 and it was great.. In the few days I had it I put myself into the game won the hardocre belt and got Moly Holly as a manager.

I am super heel of course..

I am spoiled ... Dreamcast, GameBoy Adv, N64, PS2, X-Box & PC (of course).

There are a few games out there that make me want to buy the Game Cube ...

Res Evil
Bomberman
Evolution

I refused to give in.

I still have my DC, the best thing I like about it is that you can play import games on it w/o chipping it. Ya just need a gameshark. I have 2 import games DDR 2nd Mix & L.O.L. (Lack of Love). I have shooter, puzzle, adv, RPG games & yea I have Samba de Amigo too (but no marachas).

N64 ~ Pokemon!

PS2 ~ Guncon, RPG, Puzzle games.

X-Box ~ Buffy, HoD3 (so far)

GBA ~ old SNES & PS1 games, Pokemon.

I just picked up Splinter Cell and Mech Assault for my X-Box. So far they are great games. I haven't had a chance to go online with Mech Assault yet, but I soon will.

LOW2 same as LOW1? I guess I won't be even renting it then!

FINALLY got MK5 today! (Happy birthday to me.. happy birthday to me..) Damn does it ever kick serious ass. I can tell I'm gonna spend hours trying to unlock everything.

The more I see Mechassult, the more I really want to own it...

Ya, LOW2 is the exact same thing as LOW1 just with more people, more kinds of matches, more storylines, and more moves.

Everything else, and I mean everything else is the same.
