The video game thread

Well after a full night of playing it, NHL 2K3 by Sega definitely rocks the party the rocks tha body! Better graphics, better sounds.. The real freekin goal horns :D

Damn good game! It'll be taking up my time for a while yet.

Xbox games...

Okay... here's my situation: I had bought a 2.4 GHz phone about 1.5 years ago. I got it from Best Buy, and was smart enough to get the Product Protection Plan with it. The phone was about $160, and the PPP was about $25... about 3-4 months ago, it stopped working and we quit using it. Recently, I found the receipt w/ the PPP, and sent it in, and in return I'll be receiving a $160 merchandise credit for the store. So guess what: Xbox for Christmas! :D

I bought Halo today for $29... though I waited in the check-out line for 40 mins... the line went all the way to the back of the store... by the refridgerators!!! Crazy... but I got it. Also bought Caddyshack and Blade on DVD, $20 for both.

I want to get a football game for Xbox, but not sure which. My friend has Madden 2003, and it looks awesome... but there's also NFL Fever 2003, and Sega's NFL 2k3... Which is best? I heard NFL 2k3 has more plays/options... but Madden 2003 looked sweet... what's you guys' opinions?

Also the same question for Hockey games... NHL 2003, NHL Hitz 2003, or NHL 2k3 ? I saw the above post that said NHL 2k3 was sweet... anyone else have an opinion about it?

Thanks in advance for your input... I'll keep ya's posted about more Xbox games I get...

The Sega sports games are a safe bet all around, but Madden is still a force. Fever is more for the people who have not logged tons of hours over the years on football games. It you're a veteran, it's not the top choice. I'd say read some on-line reviews first, or rent one.

I think I can call myself an authority on Xbox sports games. :D

Football: Go with NFL 2K3. The graphics are the best of the three (that being 2K3, Madden and NFL Fever 2003), and the franchise mode is fairly deep. Game play I'd have to say is the best of the three here as well. Madden 2003 comes in a very close second. Madden has a cool mini-games feature where you do various football drills and such.. plus it has Michaels and Madden. Fever 2003 is ok, but the graphics look somewhat cartonish although the franchise mode is the deepest of all of them.

Hockey: No question here.. NHL 2K3. If you've played NHL 2002 from EA sports, then you can consider yourself having played 2003 because there is no difference. 2003 does have a cool breakaway cam feature, and the franchise mode is just as good as 2K3's. The part where 2K3 wins out is realisim. The puck can be pinned along the boards, goalies will slide out of position at times while making saves.. THE FREEKIN GOAL HORNS ARE REAL!! (Sorry, I just hate generic sounds for arenas that have specific sounds..) NHL Hitz is a great game if you're not looking for total realisim.

If you have any other questions, PM me.. I've played all of them at some point or another not to figure out which ones I like best.

btw, NBA Live 2003 and NBA 2K3 are both pretty damn good.. I'm waiting to play Microsoft's newest NBA game as soon as I can get my paws on it. ;)

Just watched Van Wilder again, gets funnier every time...

"I want to take part in the great American Muff Diving...part the porpouse, you know, air dry that shit"

Too fucking funny.

So for christmas, i want Shinobii, Bloodrayne, Ledgends of Wrestling II, and i hear NHL Hitz is awesome...but for now, those are the games i'm asking for...lol, doubt i'll get more than one.

So I'm gonna trade in Unreal Championship for the xbow and get Ghost Recon I think tomorrow...sounds more like my kind of game. :)

Ghost Recon isn't what I expected...

Think if I take it back tomorrow I can get a different game free of charge?

Ok guess not...and I have no idea what game I want to get now...any sugguestions?

Either for xbox or computer...

Well, I just got Jedi Outcast II. Haven't tried it yet, but I know it's good.

Maybe Splinter Cell or MGS2?

I've played the demo, and it's incredible.

And I'm stuck on the first fucking level of Jedi Knight II

Has anyone played Fatal Frame? I think it looks cool. I liked Silent Hill. It was creepy, yet fun. I'm thinking Fatal frame is just as good. I'd like a few oppinions before I rent or buy it.

I rented Shenmue II today.. so we'll see if I like that.. I'm thinking I will :)

And yes, NHL 2K3 still rocks tha house.

I like almost all kinds of things...just nothing as fast paced and stupid as UC2003 or slow and well just plain slow as SC, MGS2, or GR.

Eurika! Pez, you should rent Fatal Frame first, I've played it and it's creepier than Silent Hill, but a lot less gross and disturbing. Definitely one to play with the lights off and the sound up.
Cibo...maybe try spyhunter...or the new 007 game...it's definitely worth a rental if you like james bond at all. Maybe mechassault, if you like that kind of thing...I mean, judging from you av's and all.
Lion-told you that when it comes to sports, Sega does a damn fine job.

They do, but if you were to tell me a year ago Sega would have over taken EA as maker of the best sports games, I would have said you were crazy.

I don't think anyone expected Sega to get so good so fast at the sports games, which explains why NFL, NBA and NHL 2K3 are all better than thier EA counterparts.

(Although Madden 2003 isn't much behind NFL 2K3.. Both are very damn good games)

Hehe...no problem. Just so long as it doesn't hamper my destructive tendencies whilst playing Rygar:D

I just gotta say that I love your AV Arc...

And I have played buffy...couldn't beat the last level and just gave up and returned it to blockbuster. And blinks does't look like my kind of game right now. I've seen the video reviews of it and not my cup of tea.
