The video game thread

Oh come on... you HAD to start laughing when you had the Siepher (sp?), Squall & Zell cut scene on the way to the first area for the training... that was just a classic moment, I loved all of FF8, other than the end of the 1st disc... those damned sewers.

Chickenwuss!!!

^ No! Bad, not cool (though a little comical), but the gameplay was fun. It's just that the characters were too unreal, Squall suddenly loving Rinoa? Quistis lusting after Squall for a bit? (Though I'm sure that'd make an interesting story). The only character in that game who remotely stayed "realistic" throughout the game was Zell......and his hot dog cravings

And Irvine. Guys that age really are that desperate (well most of them anyway).

I dunno... I seemed to grow attached to the characters... yes I actually had tears in my eyes as Balamb Garden started to move (I had Estranged by Guns & Roses playing at the time... look up the lyrics, you'll see why that's significant, especially when the disc was on random).

Zell was great, and that Chickenwuss line... it was hilarious, I loved all the characters personally. :)

Well the cool thing about Seifer was his allegorical slide into ruin (when you first fight him, his coat is all silver and pristeen, but as you continue to fight him, his coat becomes more and more dingy until it's tattered and torn during the last fight with him.

Hey does anybody out there know of a DBZ game that's actuially good and worth playing for more than ten minutes??

Heh heh, very true. Right now I'm looking for some songs and images from that classic N64 game "San Francisco Rush" probalby the worst game i've ever played in terms of graphics, but it's just so much fun. It's really strange, but it's got to be my favorite N64 game. I'll play that game anytime.

Oh yes, aside from RPGs, my other favorite genre is carange racing (where you can flip your car over, have it blow up, have items and weapons to take out the competition, only way to really race)

My fav racing game (even though I played it only for 15 mins at a store somewhere) would have to be F1 2002 for the PS2. The best racing game I own would probably be F1 challange (do we see a theme here?) or Gran Tureismo 1.

Gran Turismo - Beautiful graphics and kick ass cars, but no carnage factor. GT would be incredible if you could wreck your car. I'm so destructive when it comes to racing games.

The reason for that is probably the same reason you can't blow up your engine when you're on the test track going 230mp/h in 6th and decide to drop it down to 1st in less than a second (oh now that's fun but hard on the ears). I don't think a lot of the companies that let GT use their name like seeing their cars being trashed, blown up, or abused in any ways.

I suppose......but you gotta admit, it would be more fun to be racing along heading for the finish line when this car comes outta the left side of the screen, corkscrewing to the finish, bouncing off the ground, and exploding across the finish line in a dramatic comeback.

True. As long as you could turn the damage on or off it would be cool. But if it were stuck on I can't help but think a person would go through an awful lot of cars before getting the hang of driving. But you're right some car damage would be really really cool.

Yeah, options where your car would respawn would be needed, otherwise it would just be a one-time crash and that's no fun. I think that's why I'm not a fan of the destruction derby series. I want to be able actually race despite a few "mishaps" rather than just have one good crash and call it a day.

Ever played Demolition Racer for the PSX? I actually did what you said... in a sense.

Two player game (I have actual video footage of this on a PAL VHS video), we're racing one track (the one where going backwards around it, you can either enter the tunnel on the right, or take a sharp left, drop down a little and then go up a steep hill, launching you into the air).

Basically, I'm trying to do stunts at the top of this massive ramp, and my mates just rushing around the course. Well... my van is getting trashed nastily, and I'm going around the course too, just trying to get this massive stunt down, my mate 's nearing the end, and I'm actually in the lead, so i drop down and go for a stunt, I don't get much out of it, so I drop back down the ramp, and try again... AS my mate passes over the finish line (which signals the end of the race) you get a lovely explosion from my van, which keels over in MID air... no barrier on either side, I caught the invisible barrier, and it was enough to blow the van up... it was like fireworks! :D.

Need for Speed: Hot Persuit sounds like the perfect game for you. Or any of the NFS series that is.

That's basically what me and my pals do with SF Rush. But it's so limited in the number of tracks. I wish it had more (and no, Rush 2 nor Rush 2049 amount to the same level that Rush1 is)

I know the feeling... Demolition Racer had hardly any tracks, which was annoying, what is good is Destruction Derby Raw, I love that game, DD2 got me hooked on the destruction racer type of game... but DD Raw definatly was better (just watch out for the high rise ones... they are fun, but damned difficult, basically the idea is to knock all your opponents off the top of the high rise building, while staying on yourself, gets tricky at times. :D

Boy, miss a day and you miss a lot on this thread. I have my takes on RPGs and such (Legend of Legaia 2 has been out for some time in Japan - to impressive reviews ... FF4 rocked the house), but I'll spare the details.

I for one never understood the obsession of racing games where your status increased by what you had won. A new car model is okay, but paint jobs, decals, component parts. Bleech. probably no different than quiping your main character in an RPG, just not my style I guess.

Just gimme Mario Kart. I'll mop the floor with ya'.

That's the beauty of Rush, just a plug and play game. No need to build up your cars and such, just race and enjoy the carnage.

a real close friend of mine was obsessed with racing games, but he wants to be a professional driver, so i guess its expected. Kid likes NASCAR too, poor bastard.

I still hate RPG's.

On a totally unrelated note, i wrote a story for my english class today...and its all about Zombies. hehehe, gotta love zombies.

Ya know, if there was a Zombie RPG, i'd probably end up playing it, because i'm that much of a zombie freak. best villians EVER!
