I saw it today... Great movie. But I find it dissapointing.

The book is tenfold better.

i haven't seen the two towers yet but when i watched the first one i wasn't exactlly disappointed but i did realize that there were so many details left out that if you hadn't read the book some of the movie wouldn't have made much sense. remember how much time he put into gollum. in the movie you just barely get to know what he/she is. i guess if they'd have put in more the movie would have been 5 hours long.

oh well, i'm still gonna go see the new one next week.

happy new year.

Not too often does any movie live up to the book. I enjoyed them both very much. I have heard that when you buy dvd get the extended versions as there is some things that they left out because of time restraints.

Yes, I waited to get the extended version of the first movie and my first viewing. I'll probably do that for this movie. I'll have something to look forward to next winter.

Well, Mr K and I saw it Saturday. I enjoyed it, but I've never read the books. Mr Keen is however a HUGE fan of the books and he absolutely loved both the first and this one; he said that he couldn't think of a singly thing he would have done differently if it were up to him. He loved the Ents (sp?) and he says he especially liked how the director is just letting the story unfold and not trying to over-explain things (for example, when to one hobbit fellow talks the tree guy into going to the south, so he sees all the destruction, but he doesn't try to 'explain' to the other hobbit guy why he's doing that for the sake of the audience).

And, all the swords and battle scenes and such-like got Mr K feeling all virile and manly; frankly, it was more effective than porn:D so I reckon I'll be buying that for him on DVD at the earliest possible opportunity.

I too, loved the books as a youth and while I know some things have been left out, shortened, and changed...

It's still a way cool movie!

Don't get me wrong, I love both movies, but still was dissapointed.

I did get right into it, I actually felt apart of it.

ok twice now you've said you liked it but were disappointed. But, you haven't said what about it disappointed you.

(Note: a nebulous non-committal 'it just wasn't as good as the book' is not an acceptable answer.)

I exxpected a lot more.

I don't know really; just it didn't live up to the hype IMHO.

I remember trying to read the trilogy in high school and only made it halfway through the second book. All I remember was Tolkein rambling on and on and on about nonsense.

Perhaps its time to pick up the books again...

I loved the movies...they did a pretty good job with gollum

What is disapointing is that all the songs and poetry are gone.
The book are made of them.
Songs, prediction, stories that explain what's going on.
The magic is not there just the wars are shown.
I enjoyed the first one and The two towers is for next week

My kids and I watched the DVD just before going and seeing the movie - it was good; about 10-15 minutes of extended scenes IIRC, but it has been a year before I saw the first movie and couldn't remember what was left out.

I liked "The Two Towers". Yeah it leaves out a lot of stuff from the book, but that is what movies have to do or they wouldn't get made. It has been a long time since I have read the books - several decades, so I didn't notice it that much. I am just glad they made the movies. I would guess that they will probably make "A Hobbit's Tale" when they are done producing these movies.

I thought the characters in the second movie where done much better; by both the actors and the script. I especially liked Gollum.

I've read the trilogy, as well as the Silmarillion and the hobbit numerous times over the years.

I think the movies have been great, although the purist in me wishes they did not leave anything out and stayed true to the books.

While I understand the necessity for altering storylines to enable it to be shown on the big screen, I thought they made several changes to the Two Towers that were did not advance the storyline and in fact, made it longer. Other changes actually went against the ideas that Tolkien was trying to get across.

But I thought the portrayal of Gollum was a masterpiece of acting, digital animation and conveyed his character better than I ever imagined it would.

Yeah, but they still have a shot at The Hobbit: The Musical...

It could have used more of that.

I was disappointed, also. They made a few cuts at the end, that slowed the pace down. That's all I'll say for those who havn't seen the movie. But, for others, you know what I'm talking about.
