I’m sure this will be taken the wrong way by some, but I’m not a bad person.

It is interesting 🙄 how I can normally guess the nationality of a contributor by their “tone of voice”. Sadly, two nations seem to be joint bottom of the politeness league.

It’s definitely true that Americans are much more direct compared to the English. Other nations of English speakers have their own nuanced modes of expression with varying styles of (in)directness.

It’s also true that directness or indirectness do not always correspond to politeness, and have zero relationship to being “nice.”
 
On related note I was one of the few Americans to laugh when Peter Capaldi, as the newly incarcerated Doctor said, “I’m Scottish! I can complain!”
