"Sweet Jesus, never believe a man to be strong, for under his skin, he is a frightened boy.."

Thanks for the support and honesty Juspar.

I rather needed that at this moment....

More than welcome mate. It's a disgustingly accurate little quote. If there's anything I can do . . .

Add me to you MSN, my details in my sig.

The best of us already knew that. I think its what we fall in love with. Oh my god I used the love word at lit. Please don't kill me. lol.

Kill, Alltherage? More like worship. Gently, and with trepidation, but worship none the less. Hearts break easily, no matter what we look like.

If that snip meant anything to me I'd be hurt. You like to attack for no reason and that is your weakness.:D

This truth doesn't need to be said. It is very obvious, and I admire the man who can let his "guard" down.:rose:

Sorry, but I don't agree. Some men maybe. But not all men. Some are too damned stupid to be frightened. Some have been through too damned much to be frightened.

It may be that young men are like this. But put a few years on, and a few fire fights, and things change.

All men are capable of being scared in certain situations.

As a gender we have to put on an act of being strong. It is so deeply ingrained into us that is takes a serious effort to be completely free of any of the 'strong jawed protector of the women' image. Sure it is old fashioned, but it has been believed for a very long time.

I don't know about frightened boy though. Confused maybe.

inner child

When I am happy, it feels just the same way happy felt at seven.

When I am sad, it feels like I am 14.

When I am angry, it feels like I am 21.

When I am horny, I feel like I am 28.

When I am intellectually razor sharp: 35

I guess at 42 I won't give a shit anymore :)

"Those who know no fear can never be truly brave, for courage is the capacity to confront what can be imagined." from "Captain Newman, M.D."

There is a lot more to the paragraph that contained that sentence, and all of it applys to Raven's statement.

As a woman that's been around the block a time or two (maybe thrice, ye never know!) this is the statement that most unenlightened men sucumb to.....tis a pity as there are so many women out here that can't find a decent man......!

Hey ya Ravenloft....I've missed ya! let's cyber! (Or just a decent RP will do!)

*Huge Smile* Thank you all for your responces. I greatly appreciate it all.

hmmmmmm, still thinking about this one

i don't know raven, i think scared like a little boy isn't really that accurate. and i'm not even sure that scared is the opposite of strong as your quote implies.

but, i do appreciate your throwing that quote into the midst, it's a great conversation starter.

i think more accurately though, little boys feel fear mostly i think of the unknown. as i've grown older, more and more my fear is of the known. And even more specifically, i think my fear's tend to be of specific error's or failure's that i might make. i'll have to think about this a little more. also, i do feel much stronger than i used to, i know a lot more about the world and about myself, i know what most of my most obvious weaknesses are and i try to work around them.

meanwhile, great thread.

Trust me, whatever the strengh a male has they are weaker if they can not let themselves be scared now and then........ ingnorance breeds contempt :)

:rose: We love ya Ravenloft :rose:

I made a statement that's unenlightened? Men are always told that they have to be the strong ones, weaknesses are picked on in our childhood and capitalised on by rivals as adults. The idea that men should be other things instead is fairly new.

We exist in the present, but all of our experience is drawn from the past. It is important not to loose sight of that, because then you will end up blaming people for what they cannot help but be.

This is true of the last 2000 years, but before Patriarchy began to surface in Abraham's time, (sometime between 1800 - 1550 BC) and later with Moses and Aaron (1300=1250 BC) the world was very much a different society, with power and land ownership passed down the female side of families. Matriachal societies date back as early as 6500 BC.

Hmmm, I wonder if I was re=incarnated from that time period.....

;) LOL

I am just wasting time, reading through all the old posts, and I come across this one. Hell I don't remember posting this. Has that ever happened to you?

I am not even sure I agree with some of it. It's sort of like this sch00lteacher is someone else.

Someone play the Twilight Zone music for me...
