Wow. Sounds like the kid may be doing a bit more than social drinking . . . more like anti-social drinking.


I know a few sober drunks, and they tell me that active problem drinking is a very lonely business. In fact, they talk about being able to be alone in a room full of people.


The tree rats are really out this morning, but they're all making use of the concealment. Fucking leaves. It's really hard to get a good line of sight on them.


I'm supposed to go shooting with my brother tomorrow. I have a new rifle to sight in, you see. It's in its refinished birch stock - the first one I did - and looking quite fetching. I'll have to make pictures.

They are more dogged defenders of the feeder than the damned dachshunds are...

Every sunflower seed a tree rat gets is one less for them. They hide under the forsythia and rush out in attack any time their stash is threatened.



I just don't know where to begin with the kid, I want to talk to him, but I don't want to drive him away when he probably most needs help from people he trusts and respects. It is so easy to lose both when someone has a substance abuse problem, I have found that anger usually seems to be their first reaction.

I also changed the cheesy green plastic handguard that it came with for a dark brown USGI handguard - less a pain in the ass than I thought.


I got a sexy very early slotted one that I'm going to paint flat black for future use.


Actually, that stock is my first effort on one with a touch of damage on it. The other one is better, but I'm going with a much flatter finish on it. This one here is too glossy . . .


but it shore is purdy.

I'm awake. It wasn't my idea, honest, but it happened anyway, and the cat isn't to blame.


We're supposed to go shooting today. It's also supposed to be hot as all fuck today, too, like 95 or so. I also have the service panel to investigate so I can get some a/c cranking. I've been happy enough making do with open windows and fans, but that always p00ps out by now.


And I should change the oil in the truck.
