THE RIGHT TO LEAVE
I don't know who the author is but I think it is well said.

This is an Editorial written by an American citizen, published in a local
Newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he?

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT I am tired of this nation
worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture.
Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in
patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks
had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining
about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not
against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking
a better life by coming to America.

Our population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants.
However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our
country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of
America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our
sovereignty and our national identity.

As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language
and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of
struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have
sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or
any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society,
learn the language! "In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not
some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because
Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and
this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the
walls of our schools.

If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as
your new home, because God is part of our culture. If Stars and Stripes
offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider
a move to another part of this planet.

We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really
don't care how you did things where you came from.

This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment
gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you
every opportunity to do so. But, once you are done complaining, whining,
and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life,
I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great American
freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

With all due respect... I really dislike this 'article'.

The surge in patriotism is largely false. Driving around with a flag fluttering on the roof of your SUV doesn't make you patriotic.

While I agree that 'American' should be the most common language, and the one we're expected to converse in, please explain why acknowledging and even celebrating cultural differences is a bad thing.

God may be a part of the culture of the majority, but that in no way implies a link to Christianity. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this country was formed with an idea of freedom of religion .

"Our civil rights have no dependence upon our religious opinions more than our opinions in physics or geometry." --Thomas Jefferson: Statute for Religious Freedom, 1779. ME 2:301, Papers 2:545

The whole point of being a patriotic American is to recognize what we think is wrong with our government, our country, whatever and taking steps to change that. Patriotism and dissent go hand in hand. Demanding that things always stay the same, or that others believe as you do is not only naive and foolhardy, it's dangerous.

Patriotism also stands for what is good about your country.
I also agree that we have no state religion. Religion should be a personal, not a group thing. According to all religions, each person (not group) accounts for their earthly deeds. :D

that's utter crap- I can see why they posted as unregistered.

American does not have a unique culture. We've been spreading our culture throughout the world with our McDonald's and satellites giving tanzanians American TV channels. We invade other cultures and Americanize them. Ask anyone who worked in one of the thousands of Parisian cafes that closed do to the influx of American fast food.

God is part of our culture? That first amendment he waves in the air means that I can be a Satanist if I want to, whether he likes it or not.

We speak English? I live in Texas, the amount of Spanish spoken here is large (Esp. for thosei n low paying jobs) Spanish helps me get along when dealing with tons of people here. Plus, contrary to popular belief, English is not the official language of the United States, there is none.

In God We Trust is our National Motto? I'm pretty sure we don't have one, and if we do, it's more likely to be E Pluribus Unum... One as many.. Not the Christian Biggots vs. The Foriegners as Jerry Freakin' Fallawell would have you believe.

He did quite a job- portraying himself as a jackass and a biggot.
