The Prophecy of Ayn Rand

I never learned how to read good,

but I love Ayn Rand's films, especially 1984 & "Animal farm"

arch:rose:

weird how she never saw in her prophecy that she would end up sucking on the government teat

I also think its funny that amy's hero is a woman... you know, the very sex he doesnt think should be educated

You wish...the film was not a flop...and if you watch the one I linked you to, you will find that since the Obama cats ass trophe, her books have sold more than ever before The people know, finally, what you pukes really want...control over everyone and they are about to evict you, everywhere....

The next generation will probably be lenient with you fuckers, I want you dead.

Liberals are the scum of the earth, miles and miles beneatht he Nazi's.

Well, I guess we don't need you to post in dolf's 'speaking your mind' thread!

Atlas Shrugged, Part one...

I didn't think a film could possibly do justice to the book, Atlas Shrugged; I was wrong.

It is more entertaining if you have read the book, they miscast Eddie Willers as the token African in the film, but every thing else was spot on... this will become a Classic series of films for a generation or two in the furtue.

More young people have bought and read Ayn Rand during the Obama disaster and more and more colleges are offering Objectivism as a legitimate course in modern Philoisophy.

You lose.

Most people see Philosophy as the go-to course if you fail Art.
:D

The movie made back less than a quarter of its budget. The book is nothing but the deluded fantasies of a hypocrite.

President Obama said that Rand was for teenagers who feel misunderstood. He should have said that she was for teenagers who are assholes, and never grow out of it.

You wish...the film was not a flop...

No, YOU wish the film was not a flop. But once again, reality intrudes upon your carefully constructed cocoon....

Atlas Shrugged Part 1:
Budget: $20,000,000 (estimated)
Gross: $4,563,873

Did she envision what a flop the film would be?

her books, philosophy and name will live on for hundreds of years after her death. your pathetic snark will shrivel and blow away by the time i take my next shit.

she's a best selling author and created her own philosophy, that's nothing to bitch about. if people disagee with her, that's their choice. if she wasn't perfect, who among us is qualified to judge her?

haters and critics, man. haters and critics :(

L. Ron Hubbard was also a best-selling author and creator of his own philosophy. Just because someone writes a couple of best-sellers and pulls a philosophy out of their ass it doesn't make them above criticism.

Especially if they fail their own life tests.

Rand was a hypocrite of the highest order. Sure, she talked a good game, but when it was no longer feasible to be self-reliant she went on the public dole despite all of her professed beliefs to the contrary.

Deflection. His accomplishments, like hers do not place him above criticism.

This isn't about me or my life works or, in her case, a failure to live up to them. it's about Ms. Rand's.

Manufactured religions such as Hubbard's and Rand's, have cult-like followings but ultimately short shelf-lifes.

Anyone can create their own philosophy; the true test is how other philosophers react to it. There's a reason that Whitehead said that all of western philosophy is basically a series of footnotes to Plato, and that when Ayn Rand is mentioned among educated people she's immediately dismissed as a ridiculous hack. To place her in the company of people like Schopenhauer and Locke and Descartes is like giving Obama the Nobel Peace prize.

I agree that penning a bestselling book or two is nothing to sniff at, and I honor her as a successful writer. That said, there have been a lot of successful books that, well, no one would say they're literary monoliths. The fact that Ayn Rand is in the company of people like whoever the fuck wrote that Twilight shit doesn't argue for her brilliance.

i don't think you understand.
it's possible to respect their efforts without agreeing with their conclusions. if their philosophies are popular then they have merit without regard for critical praise.

she created and professed a certain philosophy, and in the waning years of her life *may* have had a change of heart, or a revision of her beliefs. there's no definitive evidence of her true feelings, wishes or thoughts.

and since you're chiming in with snarky criticism, you're absolutely subject to reproach. i didn't pull you into the room.

who ever said there was only 1 plane of philosphers? i don't know of a hierarchy of greatness or profundity when it comes to philosphers, but i'm sure people in the know are able to separate the 'better' thinkers from the j.v. team.

similarly, i don't know there there's any codified authors hierachy, but as an avid reading i wouldn't consider the books of rands which i've read as being on the mindless prose level that stephanie meyer has had success with.

None of these lofty arguments change the fact that the movie is an outright flop that very few will ever see. Wasn't that where we started?
