I'm just curious about this. I'm loaded for bear, you might say. LOL I've got AOL AIM, Netscape's version of AIM, MSN Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger. *whew*

I'm just wondering which one is more popular. Which one is easier, or better in your opinion. I don't have an opinion, as I've only used the two versions of AIM.

:)

I have ICQ and MSN Messenger. I never turn ICQ on. I rampantly loathe it and hate it. Too many people want to talk to me over it for some reason, it starts lagging me and distracting me from posting entirely too much on erotic website bulletin boards.

I mostly use Messenger.

I've heard tell that ICQ has a big backdoor in it. Yes, I used to hang out with the bad kids, now that I'm here, I'm hanging out with the good kids. Won't mom be proud?

dont feel bad!!

I have AOL, AIM, Yahoo Messenger, and ICQ!!! I love MY ICQ cept those damn UHOHs are gettin on my nerves!!!!

I have Yahoo IM and AIM (from Earthlink). I do all my role playing on Yahoo IM because Yahoo's clubs make it easier for me to find like-minded people to play with.

The only problem I have with Yahoo IM is its tendency to crash.

ICQ Yahoo IM Paltalk MSN IM
I find that ICQ wont work for voice. (long distance)
Yahoo works for voice does not do Vids.
Paltalk does Vids but the voice wont work.
MSN sometimes does some of them.

LOL at GuessT! Reminds me of the DOS days, not to mention early Windows. Confusing, but interesting times.

ICQ and IM, though I, personally, prefer ICQ. I just don't talk to people I don't know. Narrow of me.

I use ICQ and love it, so long as people aren't messaging me and saying 'i saw u on lit, nice tits' and want to be added to my user list. (Laurel, I've asked you twice to remove my ICQ# from my Lit profile.. *batting eyelashes prettily*

It wouldn't bug me so much if I knew who the hell they were..

I've got AOLIM and rarely use it, due to the lack of 'Invisible' feature.

I know what you are talking about Endlessly people send you messages saying "I saw you on Lit" my first response is "and you are???"

The good ole' days

Am I the only one that misses the old DOS bbs systems? Sure, they looked like hell and were chock-full of spam-scrollers, but they moved fast and you could much more easily navigate between 10-20 different simultaneous conversations.

I am too young to feel this damned old.

Uh-oh. You know it's time to pack it in for the night when you start sounding like lousy old country music. *sigh*

AIM, ICQ, MSN I think I prefer Aim, it feels quicker to me, but then we all have our preferences. I do like some of the ICQ features though, and wouldn't be surprised if it improved over the next few months.

Carl.

UHOHS can be a thing of the past, dear!

OK, I'm going to break it all down for you! I have AIM, MSN and ICQ. They all have their advantages. (My versions are old but work just fine, so this may be out of date a tad.)

ICQ lets you send offline messages, and be invisible yet still remain fully functional. Plus, it has a chat function which lets you converse with the other person in real time... letter by letter, as opposed to message by message. It's better I think. The downside is that once someone leaves the conversation the window closes and the conversation is lost. As far as I know there is no way to save it. (8/10)

MSN is basic, but has a little dialogue box down the bottom which tells you when someone else is typing a message, thereby eliminating that whole "is it my turn to talk?" thing. (6/10)

AIM, is probably the best to use in my opinion. It's very functional with heaps of features, and very easy to follow. (9/10)

One thing they could all do with is a message history for conversations. ICQ has one, but only in IM's, not on it's chat function. Sometimes it's nice to look back over conversations and smile again. I just copy the text into a word processor and save it to view later if it's worth saving. It would be a real advantage if they had that feature. Maybe they do now?

Most of them now have voice functions - meaning it is possible to have voice converations over them (Though they are a little choppy apparently.)

Don't know a thing about Yahoo though.

So there are my ratings! But really, who cares? As long as they work, what else do you need? :)

Oh, I forgot! If you have Hotmail they you NEED to get MSN. It tells you how much mail you have without you needing to log on, and you don't have to sign in. You can check it by simply clicking on the mail icon. Not only that, but it alerts you to new mail as it arrives. It's a great tool to have... even if you don't use it to chat.

Nope, I do the same thing. I only use ICQ and I just don't talk to people I don't know. Set it up so that you have to "accept them" before they can add you to their contact list. When ads or other obnoxious msgs get through to you the first time, just click on the button that cancels all future messages from the same ID before you even see them.

If someone from LIT is trying to reach you, they'll generally tell you their name so you know if they are a regular or someone passing through looking just at the pix.

I loooove icq, but it's a personal thang. Love the ignore fuction, the history, and the authorization requirement. I only use it to IM cause usually I'm busy reading or posting things to devote myself to one conversation. I have been noticing, as of late, that I've gotten several sales messages on there though. Talk about annoying....first they infest my email, now icq so what's next? Here?
The only thing that's starting to get to me, is that since I've had it so long I've racked up quite a few people on my contact list and dang it's hard holding 5 conversations and not sounding flaky....I must be getting old...

I have both, and I have to say I like ICQ better on the Mac. AIM is running a close second though, but I don't use it unless I have the time to get into an actual chat session.

And Endlessly, there is indeed a way to be "invisible" on AIM. If you only want to talk to certain people, put your prefs on "only users on my buddy list", or "only these users" and then choose which ones. Or, you can tell it to prompt you when someone wants to chat, and you can accept or decline at that point.

*sigh* Now I've got ICQ. I feel like a collector of messenger services. LOL All I need now is people to try them out on.

Maddog,

You can save ICQ chats in the latest versions of ICQ. Of course, ICQ99 and ICQ2000 are memory hogs, but you can save the chats.

Endlessly, I wholeheartedly agree with your disgust for people who make authorization requests simply because they saw your profile on Lit. I seem to get at least one every few days. If I authorized every Literotica perv who requested authorization ("saw you on lit, nice tits, let's chat sometime") my ICQ would explode!

MADDOG concider updateing to ICQ 2000a, I use it and it does allow you to save your chats, when you have comleted the download and before you run ICQ :- GO / START /PROGRAMS /ICQ /ICQ Database Converter
Click or double click it depending on your setup and it adjusts all your existing ICQ files to the new format.
