queen of words????

QUOTE Mz Tarot: The Mat after my name,...am I being accused of being an alt of LiquidMatherw's? Oh that's funny as hell if I am. Anyone reading a story of mine will hear my born in the south accent clear as day. Scouries if you will take a second and pull up my favorites you will find one of your stories there. It was a good read.

Jim didn’t accuse you of anything! He in fact thinks you’re a wonderful person and clearly quite discerning since you “favorited” one of his stories.

I, Jacqui L., produced the list, not jrs esq.

And the “Mat” after your name did refer to the category (as did the R’s, I’s and other letters on other stories).

Good luck in the A.I.R. Contest...

Thank you…and maybe now, before the winners are announced, we should all sit back and try to figure out what changes our dear LAUREL could implement to improve these themed contests...

Jacqui O./scouriesworld is scouries for anyone who might not know. It is a replacement for the propaganda alt Lit banned last year for spamming the threads. This is also scouries sucking up.

My incest story just passed 900 votes, making it my #2 story for votes.

Ok, so I've been away about a year - and the voting numbers just seem ridiculous. Is this a new thing? Is everyone seeing a lot of votes? I mean 2000 in 5 days is kind of crazy. This story isn't that good. Even the romance story has over 1000 votes. It used to take years to get 2000 votes. The 'lap moms' story is already my seventh most popular ever in vote count. In a few days, at this rate, it'll be third. Number two has been on the site for 6 years.

Am I missing something? Is spamming votes a big problem? I'm curious. I guess this is what comes from staying away since last summer's contest.

The sweeps should be interesting...

I checked my score just before I came here. I entered a group sex story and it has a total of 65 votes in more than ten days. The score is pretty low too, about 4.12 which makes it the lowest score of any story I have posted.

What are the sweeps?

I posted in Romance and have 200+ votes, nothing near that high amount. Though I've only posted two stories so a reader-base is quite small. A guess would be followers from another genre crossed over and read both.

Incest/taboo seems to be getting around 44% of the views and 44% of the votes cast. You can see all the percentages in the contest analysis a page back.

Sweeps are supposedly when bogus (duplicate?) votes are removed, which is likely to affect some scores.

Your story in particular seems to have got a lot of votes, however there are six others with over 1000 votes. The median number of votes though is 171, and the average is 314.

To put this into context, I submitted a LW story (not in the competition) which went live about 3 days ago. It has 482 votes right now which probably isn't too bad for the LW section.

I don't know what it means, maybe there are more visitors to the site recently.

BTW - your story was excellent. 8000 reads is ridiculously low, but the votes per number of reads is off the wall. I hope the word gets out. Kiss of the Sun was one of maybe a dozen really good entries in the contest. Then again, I've only read a little more than half of them. Hopefully I'll find more gems like this one. Thanks.

I think it has to do with more people voting in general, and if you leave a comment telling people to vote, you'll get even more votes on top of that.

I think more voters. I left a shameless note saying "look we only get paid here in votes and this is a contest, so lets go"

I also added to only vote once.

Mine is over 1800 my highest ever, but my last 2 Mother/son stories went over 1400 and contests will generally get more.

Sadly whenever I see a lot of votes on my or another story in the contest there is the concern of the scouries affect. He hates when people write better incest than him, so he pretty much hates every incest author and has wreaked havoc in the past

That does seem low for group. I entered Nude Day with group sex and it got around 340 or so.

I have about 7700 views and a little under 300 votes, which is a good ratio compared to non-contest stories. But I stayed in my usual romance category.

Thank you for the compliment, it means a lot. Right back at ya! I completely agree about the entries. There's quite a few stories that are truly great, so it will be interesting to see who wins. I've read through the majority of them, and am getting caught up this weekend on final entries. It opens the doors to other writers I'd not have known before, but definitely want to get caught up in all of their stories :)

That is a good ratio, hopefully within Romance there isn't that much of a deviation in votes. Even so, I suppose what is important is the view count. At least, the cheerleader deep inside says so for the amount of readers taking the stories on.

So seeing this is the contest thread I'll post this here.

The June 2011 winners were posted today.

First off, no surprise all are chapter stories. It has been discussed time and again how chapter stories have unfair advantages in scoring over new stories.

But why would the site care about fixing something that simple?

Next we have three winners, before I say what they were note that every category gets a nominee (I was surprised to see I was the incest nominee-and yes, it was a chapter story)

So the winners?

a sci-fi entry and...

2 non human entries. 2 winners from the same category.

I don't care what their scores are there is only one nominee mentioned per category and this is by far not the first time this has happened.

The second winner in NH was Jaz Cullen, who herself, is so tired of winning, that she removed herself from the annual awards so she wouldn't win again.

So can everyone moving forward please spare us any talk that there is no games or favoritism played on this site?

Can we for once just embrace some simple facts and reality?

Yeah, I've had more votes on this than any of my other stories. Of course, this is also my first contest entry and it takes me for-fucking-ever to post my regular stuff.

I'm not surprised by your numbers at all, TTT. You've got a lot of history and fans here, so of course when you drop in, people will be reading (and hopefully voting and commenting). As I said about Pool Boy, it was great to see you posting again.

lovecraft, as far as favoritism is concerned... I don't see it from the site. I see it from the readers, which is as it should be. If I had as many stories up as some of you other writers, I could have views through the roof. Instead, I have nine stories with a ridiculous wait between each one. But that's on me and I accept that. I'm certainly not complaining about the scores I get. People have been very generous to me, and I appreciate it immensely.

Some of that is not entirely so. I was rather late getting my entry posted here, but it has been there since Aug. 30. It is in the EC category and has only 9,555 views, 57 votes and one PC, which was quite complimentary. And I have been here over nine years, have more than 500 items posted and am in the top 60 in terms of most favorited.

Years ago it was romance that the butthurt complained was the favorite of the site. Now its something different but the whining remains the same. You wallow in the same trolling and paranoia as scouries. If winning means that much to you then write chapter stories in non human or whatever category you think is the sites favorite. If it doesn't then just write whatever and take some preparation h for your butthurt.

butthurt whining

I just met the deadline with my "fetish" story. According to my author's page, it's received 230 votes against 21,483 views or around 1% of readers/page views are voters. After 8 positive comments and 12 favorites, the ninth comment is the first negative one. Since the negative comments are usually moronic, I'll give the reviewer points for being imaginative. My story is called, "I suck for Heather" and here is their reply:

You suck for Heather?
Wrong you suck at everything, especially writing.

The score has been slowly sagging, losing its covented red H status. That's not uncommon for my contest stories. Apparently they're not well liked during the contest and then rise higher after the contest ends. Go figure. I've gotten more personal emails from this story than any other that I've written in the past and all of those have been positive.

Now that entry period has passed, good luck everyone!

Contest analysis

Good evening. The mice tell me that there are 106 stories in the competition to date, with an average score of 4.20 from an average of 298 votes. Stories had an average of 26,755 views, an average of 10 favorites, and an average of 10 comments. The average ratio of votes to views is 1.16%. The average number of pages is 2.9, with the longest story being 24 pages.

So far there have been a total of 31,347 votes, 2,836,082 views, 1,086 favorites and 1,060 comments.

The standard deviation of scores (from the average of 4.20) is 0.48 and the standard deviation of votes (from the average of 298) is 398. The median score is 4.31, the median number of votes is 155 and the median number of pages is 2. The top 25% of scores are 4.60 or above and the bottom 25% of scores are 3.94 or below.

Sweeps

Some votes have been reduced (swept) since the start of the competition. A total of 27 stories have had their votes adjusted, with 13 sweeps resulting in a new score that day which is higher than before and 8 sweeps resulting in a new score that day which is lower. There were a total of 55 votes swept, being an average of 2 per story. The maximum number of votes swept for a single story was 8. (Figures based on toplists, and may not be totally accurate).

Disclaimer

Because of the way this site works these figures will not be totally up-to-date. For a given story the score shown on:

  • The category page
  • The author's page
  • The toplists page

can all be different.

Also it appears that various pages update at different times of the day, sometimes quite infrequently.

Please do not PM me asking for more detailed information. I do not wish to skew contest results by giving a target for voting manipulation.

* sigh *

Apparently, my story wasn't good enough to troll this time.:(

Your story was good enough. With 105 stories to go through there may not be enough trolls to go around just yet.

Tell you what if I have any extra trolls I'll loan them to you.
