There were several Independent Candidates in the Clacton By-Election yesterday.
The headline was that UKIP won with a massive majority but the last placed candidate was interesting.
Charlotte Rose, Independent, described herself as a 'high-priced courtesan'. Her platform statement included:
'I love working with people and people like and trust me.'
'I am focusing on compulsory sex and disability education in schools so that all people enjoy healthy and happy sex lives.'
'Pubs in Clacton should be allowed to have striptease.'
'Those who provide professional sexual services in Clacton are so stigmatised that most cannot tell anyone what they do'
The winning UKIP candidate received 21,113 votes.
The others:
Conservative 8,709
Labour 3,957
Green 688
Liberal Democrat 483
Independent (a doctor campaigning for more money for the NHS) 205
Monster Raving Loony Party 127
and
Charlotte Rose 56
She lost her deposit of £500. Was it worth it for the publicity she received?
Did she mean 'compulsory sex' in schools, and 'disability education' or education about both sex and disability? Whichever she meant, the electors of Clacton weren't listening.
