The Isolated Blurt Thread XXIX : So Stupid

There must have been a reason, to be generous, at the moment.

I do not know of anyone that could have predicted the amount of venom
that some have developed, these past few years.

Science and truth-seeking takes precedence over politics.

Science and truth-seeking is the path to genuine progress.

The perversion of science by politicians, Machiavellians and politically-motivated charlatans is truly offensive.

"...the Resplandy et al. paper has today been retracted, at Nature’s request. This article at Retraction Watch covers the story. The Retraction Notice by the authors at Nature reads:

Shortly after publication, arising from comments from Nicholas Lewis, we realized that our reported uncertainties were underestimated owing to our treatment of certain systematic errors as random errors. In addition, we became aware of several smaller issues in our analysis of uncertainty. Although correcting these issues did not substantially change the central estimate of ocean warming, it led to a roughly fourfold increase in uncertainties, significantly weakening implications for an upward revision of ocean warming and climate sensitivity. Because of these weaker implications, the Nature editors asked for a Retraction, which we accept. Despite the revised uncertainties, our method remains valid and provides an estimate of ocean warming that is independent of the ocean data underpinning other approaches. The revised paper, with corrected uncertainties, will be submitted to another journal. The Retraction will contain a link to the new publication, if and when it is published.
I believe that this saga, as well as showing how ineffective journal peer review tends to be in spotting problematic issues in papers, illustrates the need for a much closer involvement of statisticians in climate science research..."

It seems young Greta and her speech has gone messed up chart-boy something fierce, worse than when new mothers push their strollers and walk two abreast on the path he rides his bicycle on.

Got to see Peter Frampton "come alive" one final time on Saturday night. He's on his "farewell tour" and really put on a show.

Did Clapton come out for a song or two?

There was some guitars gently weeping at the Friday night show.

I'm seeing Phil Collins on his "Not Dead Yet" tour this weekend. The nostalgia is running strong.

Seems to be Nostalgia Week here in Houston.
  • Sat - Frampton
  • Sun - Iron Maiden
  • Mon - Deep Purple
  • Tue - The Who
  • Wed - Phil Collins

nope. Clapton's "Crossroads festival" was in Dallas Friday and Sat night. Frampton was off on Friday so he played a set with Clapton in Dallas, then came back to Houston for Sat. night, then played his planned full concert Sunday night back up in Dallas.

BTW, Frampton's got that degenerative disease in his hands but I didn't notice it at all until the very last song in the encore "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" cover of George Harrison...seems the band just cut the song short. Fun concert though.

He was telling stories between songs. Told about writing "Show me the way" in the Bahamas one morning, felt really good about it, took off early to go for a swim, got dried off and immediately wrote "Baby I love your way" as the sun went down. "Most productive day of my life!"

Looking to be a soccer mom?

LOL. This is a proper Range Rover. A P38. 2.5 diesel. The diesel is a little under powered as standard but it can be chipped for thirty quid to sort that out.
