The Earth Day 2011 Contest Support Thread

Just posted last night...

Already fourteen votes, maybe not as high as I would like, one very complimentary comment and one anoymous troll, who apparently has weird, unresolved issues w/ enviro types. Which is funny because one of the main characters in the story fits that exact profile.

It's pretty long, but not as long as it would have been if I'd included the entire backstory of one of the main characters. And I wrote it pretty quickly. But I didn't realize how much lead time some people give themselves for the contest. I'm just glad I put it out there.

Anyone curious can click on the story, "Dirty Girl" There's plenty of sex, but it takes a while to get to.

Is it common for stories to just run out of gas midway through the contest? Last contest I kept getting votes and comments throughout, but I've gone a while now without anything new happening.

There are those more experience in contests than I am that might give you a definitive answer. But, from the trend I've noticed, yes it seems within first few days of submitting your story you garner the most votes. Halfway through votes start winding down and at last minute I've sometimes gotten a few more. Wait for the sweeps, they change the whole game! Good luck. I'm hoping tonight to start reading the stories. I'll be sure to read yours. :)

It varies from contest to contest but sometimes it's more the title or the category that makes a big difference.

Mine started off fast and furious and has now settled down to a slow trickle.

I can say and do whatever the fuck I want. I can post a million comments on your stories if I want. That's what happens on this site when you let people comment on your stories.
I think I'm going to go read and comment on every one of your stories and remind myself how they are all a fucking pile of shit.

You can't stop me. You can whine all you want I'll just keep posting these comments.

Well, now, I really don't think that I need to comment to PrincesErin's post. I think she finally is literate enough for everyone to understand how mentally unstable she is.

Thank you for reading, voting, and commenting on my stories, PrincessErin.

Knock yourself out commenting on all my stories and don't forget the poems, too. I figure that should keep you busy for the rest of the year.

You have a nice day.

Jerk. You are so pathetic throwing around the term mentally unstable. Are you so disrespectful to those with that illness? Yes you are.

You are not thankful for my votes. You want to hear about how great your stories are. They aren't. They are all trash and not worth the space online they take up.
You are pissed that I'm actually honest with your stories.

My apologies. I just realized that you're Canadian. That would explain things.

Take care of yourself.

Thank you for being a fan. Don't forget to vote.

Good God, would the two of you grow the fuck up already? This little feud has been going on for years. No one cares anymore who said what to whom or why. Put each other on ignore and be done with it. Don't read or comment on each other's stories, don't read each other's posts.

I respect you both as writers, but you're only making yourselves look like fools. Enough is enough already. It's getting old and frankly quite childish.

Sorry to everyone else on this thread. As a lurker, I like reading the posts, but it's a pain in the ass wading through the incessant bickering between these two.

I've said my piece, I'll not reply on the forums further. Send me a private message if you have issues with what I said. Or not. Makes no difference to me.

I'm just writing stories. PrincessErin feels compelled to bash my stories. I'm just minding my own business, as usual.

Princess is the one having a bit of a meltdown. Maybe it's just that time of month. Unfortunately it seems to last 12 months. Perhaps, she'd going through the change of life. Let's hope she gets her sex operation and or brain transplant soon.

By they way, Chicky, you're only adding to the lunacy with your post. To be honest, I don't expect anything less from you.

Dark, if there are 50 stories and they have a total of 7,343 votes, that is an average of 146.86 each.

My formulas only take into account stories where the data has updated. Votes and views are never available on the first day ( other than the pre-approval views ) so I exclude those from the averages and medians. Only some of the stories show score on the first day, so I only include those.

The only thing that calculates averages for every story every day are the favorites and comments columns, since those seem to update on a far more frequent basis.

Averaging everything else with 4 stories that show 0 votes just doesn't make sense :p

Thank you for the statistical information. I find it so interesting.

Based on your numbers, my nine stores acount for 18% of all the stories submitted.

My 1,538 votes account for 20.95% of all votes cast.

And my 121,358 views account for 19.89% all all views.

I'm finding this very informative. Statistics make the contest so much more fun.

Thank you for all your hard work.

I'm confused by the confusion... What's wrong with that average?

Boxlicker's math is correct (7,343 divided by 50 is 146.86). Dark is saying that using all 50 stories in that equation is incorrect, since the 7,343 number is based on data from only 46 stories. 7,343/46 = ~160

Tomorrows data will have information on all 50. Some things are a day behind.

Well I submitted my entry this afternoon (UK time, that is). Will have to see whether it gets through first time.
