That sounds positively exquisite.

I recall an overpriced little steak house along the shorefront that was like that; (I don't remember why we were ducking in there) but the small, dark booths with high partitions seemed absolutely intimate enough for mob deals.

I think the AFK in Everett is still open.

In addition to slightly overpriced beers & burgers, you can borrow a board game from their fairly extensive library.

this description reminded of this little place on the North Carolina Coast called Gandolf's (Farawyn - you would LOVE) that I ate at all the time one very dark winter in the off season. The food was good - upscale greasy spoon/ bar food. it was dark and totally unpretentious. Sometimes there was a little live music - folk stuff - not too loud. And there were stacks and stacks of board games that you could take back to your table and hang out and play all night if you wanted to while you nursed a beer until closing time.

The seafood was great, the waitress left you alone, just enough, and I remember playing the ORIGINAL trivial pursuit. But just with the cards - not with the board. We modified the rules. If you answered ALL of the questions on one of those cards right you got a sugar packet. Anything less than that was just a scratch and the card was tucked to the back of the box. At the end of the night whoever had the most sugar packets won.
Mmmmmm. *sigh* those were lovely nights.

And when the place closed for the night we would walk on the beach in the pitch dark. Stormy January and February Atlantic coastal nights. :)

This place sounds great. I have to look it up. My Big Kid goes to school down south. I may drive myself this Fall, and also see friends as I go.

It sounds as if it should be in Boston.

I miss Boston, such a magnificent city.

I'd love to travel around just to go to cool little places like this.
Why aren't I a millionaire? Damn...

I haven't but I want to!

One of my best friends lives in Boston. I was hoping my Kid would go to college there. He got into BC. But damn, are they expensive! So, kind of glad he did not.

Still, seeing my friend every month or so would have been great.

Oh, and there's also this, cb!!! Ad Staggy, and MD!...and any other LOTR geeks!

Love Boston! It's absolutely in my top list of places.

Sounds like an awesome pub. Never been but I think I will when I manage to get back to Boston.

mistakenly allowed myself to be hotboxed once. (also more than a decade ago) The one and only time I ever got high with pot. Was actually a very unpleasant experience. Eyes kept gittering and would not focus.

It also marked the last time I ever hung out with stoners, which at another time in my life, was fairly regular.

Thought you said glittering and figured no wonder it was unpleasant.

This does sound perfect. Why can't we have nights like that now?

Boston is fun, I haven't been in years but so much to explore.

I know, right? Let's split some lottery tickets!
