I’ve seen these types of initiatives tried by other administrations and not much came out of them, however there’s definitely no downside to trying. They are both exceptionally smart people.

BUT Trump hates electric vehicles
BUT Trump also hates China more than electric vehicles.
Soooooo
Trump will likely put a 100-300 percent tariff on Chinese EV imports
and
Tesla will have much less competition until either Trump and Musk have a falling out (estimated date: June 2025) or Trump succumbs to dementia (estimated date: November 2026).

Efficiency is like Motherhood, hard to attack and not an easy job. My guess is that Musk will hand over some limited cash to the States and hand that financing function to the finance department and sack thousands. The States will fight like cats in a sack for extra funding and the Feds will tell them to raise their own funds. It will be ugly. Some States will do it well, others, very very badly.

Expect the $1.5 trillion in outstanding Student Loans to be privatized - sans necessary audit standards. That disaster has the potential to get much worse.

Just so you know, my collage education was paid for by the GI Bill. This due to my 4 years in the Air Force. My wife's education was paid for by the Social Security benefits she got when her father passed away when she was 19 months old. We paid for our son's education out of our own pockets. Never expecting some left wing nut job to forgive studentbloans for people now making 6 figures, and more.

In order to present the facade of success, we began lowering the standards.
Getting your high school diploma used to mean something substantial.
But, to get those kids in college, we just kept lowering (and lowing),
and we devalued the High School diploma like it was a dollar.

A BA is now nothing more than a HS diploma.
A BS if you actually took Calc 101...
