The Department of Government Efficiency (aka DOGE)

Excellent prediction. Relegating government functions to the states without providing sufficient funding seems like a very Musk/Trump thing to do.

It’s one of the reasons why there has been so much resistance from the states (even "red" states) to assist ICE: DonOld and the MAGAt republicans want the states to do ICE’s job without funding or compensation for the hits to their economies.

😑

The guy who ruined Twitter and lost billions is in charge of a government department that was made up especially for him via his $200 million gift to trump.

Super fuckin efficient.
So how much money do you it should be worth to own one of the biggest public discourse platforms, help win an election, and get your foot in the door to help secure government financial efficiency for the world's largest super power country?

If it was a serious effort to be more efficient they wouldn’t have hired two people for the job, only one.

This ^ is an instant classic.

👍

👏

🏆

Also:

It’s like they’re telegraphing / broadcasting the fact that the whole thing (DOGE) is a farce.

😳

😑

🤣

I don't know because I wouldn't sell out my country. DonOld will sell you a position on his staff for $200 million, we know that.

You think government efficiency is 'selling out the country'? Voters like you are why your country is 35 trillion dollars in debt and spiraling out of control.
The DOGE is a joke department. It’s not really going to make the government more efficient.

I didn't say any of that, NastyFuckBoi. Learn to read.

Well, the executive branch has been put together piecemeal over the centuries and a lot of it doesn't make sense organizationally -- e.g., NOAA is part of the Commerce Department. It might be an improvement if somebody systematically reorganized it along more rational lines.
For instance, there ought to be one department under which all agencies with scientific or technological missions, such as NOAA and NASA, are grouped.

Will this DOGE be doing anything like that?

Conflict of interest much?

"We need to cut your business subsidies and increase mine to be more efficient "

<Insert ego stroking of 47 here>
How is it a conflict of interest to employ brilliant business minds to fix a totally broken and near futile financial situation?

They understand money, debt, spending, etc., far more than any politician who thinks the printing press solves all. That thought process got us to this point.

Government pays his company.

Are you daft?

Any business with an advantage with government subsidies making decisions the directly impact them...

You are daft

If they lack policy authority and budget control it’s a nothing burger. I’m skeptical about this producing any meaningful change. Maybe my skepticism will fade as more details come out.
That is the problem. As an example there are somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 (+/-) 'Jobs programs' in place today. They overlap each other but each were a bone thrown to a congress critter to get them to vote on something of greater importance, a political bribe if you will so they could go back to their district and crow about what they had accomplished.

That is just one subject out of many in which that same situation has, and is, taking place and there is no one party to bless or blame here.

The fact of the matter is that each and every one of any proposed cuts is going to be goring someones pet Ox and only a few MAY be subject to administrative elimination.

What Vivek and Musk can do is bring the wasteful bullshit to the public's attention and create some public outrage at the waste.

So you're in favour of government efficiency and financial responsibility. Good! 👍
What's that got to do with this? Based on what we've seen in this thread, the DOGE will be utterly helpless and powerless in that regard.

I’ve seen these types of initiatives tried by other administrations and not much came out of them, however there’s definitely no downside to trying. They are both exceptionally smart people.
