The Challenge Club

Hi all! - should I continue this story? Does it even grip?

The nights grow long, winter comes. It is a hard task, the writing of old deeds. Perhaps I am trying to purge my sins with these words. A public confessional, an exposition of motive. Perhaps not. Is it pride talking? Pride, the deadly sin, pride in sin. I do not know. Probably there is no reason to this writing. It simply is. It would make no difference if I wrote these tales in the sand, to be washed away by the next cold and hungry tide. If I wrote them in a leather-bound codex, to be eaten by worms or fire while it lay upon its abandoned shelf.

I came across an old typewriter yesterday. It still lay in its old wooden chest, the production seals untouched. Brand new, yet already old. Reverently I removed it from its grease paper and inserted the ink spool and tried out its brass keys with silver etching. A fervent and almost manic joy suddenly took hold of me and I began to search for paper to feed to the machine. I saw the muse descend and I knelt before her. She commanded and I followed her whim.

Many years ago. When there were summers. When there were trains. And cars. I was young then. The sirens were unexpected. Nobody really knew what was happening, just the sirens. And the running. The running feet, the screams. I remember them.

I got to safety. But safety had a price. We shot many others, who tried to force themselves into the shelter. We threw out the old, the infirm several days later. There wasn't much food and it was hard to count the days. Many died suspiciously. There was disease. The air grew foul, but we didn't notice the stench. We were alive.

Then we ran out of food. It was a long time since the sirens so we went outside. The world was different. No roads or trains. Nothing much moved. The town was still there, but there were no people. Silence. In those silent days we worked to rebuild our world.

They called me Felix, but I was not happy.

One day I lost my name. It was a cold summer day. The grass was grey and most of us were struggling in the fields, trying to get crops to grow. It was difficult, we didn't know how to farm and we were still living on old tins and cans. But for how much longer? Chief was away on an expedition, searching for other survivors.

The sun was weak and dim, a shadow of what I remembered. I saw Helen coming to the fields, carrying food for us. She was Chief's, but she shone. She looked like the days before. Some nights I found myself praying to her. Many of us dreamt of her in those days.

I want to know more. Post apocalyps? And then what? Confessions: sounds like awful deeds. Definitely makes me curious.

:)

Hi all.....

Would love to get in on this Challenge thing.......is it too late for the last one posted? And, if so, when will the next one be issued?

 Cloudy

Hi Cloudy,

Do feel welcome to join in.

It seems I'm the only one so far to have delivered something for the last challenge. So I'd say go right ahead.

I'm not sure about the next one. We kind of lost a lot of others.

:(

I'm not going to get this challenge done. I have had too many other stories that I had to get finished. I should be able to do the next one though. When will it be time for the next one to be given?

Shall we give it till next weekend for the current one? That way Cloudy can join in right away.

You should have more votes.
I'm sure I voted, cos I love the series.

If you have the time, will you have a look at my novella? Votes is nice, but I'm more interested in comments.

don't worry about me, either way is fine....I started on it today, but only got like half a page done, so nothing lost if I don't make it in on this one........up to y'all....

This coming weekend or the one after? I don't mind waiting. Welcome to our club Cloudy! We need some new people since some of our men have gone AWOL for a bit due to stuff going on in their lives.

BT, do you mean the Zodiac series? I think I am up to 9 votes now, so I still need one more to get my H. My Earth Day story still needs 8 more to qualify for the contest.

I will read them soon. I promise.

I thought coming weekend?

I voted (again) on the Zodiac series. Not sure I did the first time around. :D

I'll read the Earth Day tonight and give it a vote as well.

Haya Wills,

Nice to have you back. Done building, are you?

:)

Ok, this coming weekend sounds fine to me. Thanks for the Zodiac vote. If it's a duplicate, it'll get taken off eventually, I am sure, but at least for now, that gives it 10, lol.

Please do vote on the Earth Day story. I still need five more votes to qualify for the contest. Right now, it is doing very good in the ratings (4.80). I thought it was a pretty good story, but I wasn't expecting it to do as well. The ones I always like seem to do worse than the others.

I read your Novel chapters, and I have really enjoyed them so far, looking forward to reading the others as they are posted. Oops, just noticed that 6 is now up. I voted on all of them too.

Read your Earth Day story. And voted of course.

I particularly liked the tiny goats, that made me really laugh.

:)

Thanks BT. I was doing pretty well and had a score within contention and then got hit with 2 low votes and dropped a tenth of a point. It still has a good rating, but now it's not good enough to place. Oh well, I know that it's a good story.

Hello BT and CM

Thank's for the welcome!

I have read you Earth Day story and voted CM. Will read your last story here later.

Building work is progressing, think we have sold our first apartment, that will be good news for the bank manager! One down - four to go.

Sorry not to have been around but real stuff has to take priority I'm afraid. Also got way too bogged down with the last challenge - it has grown into a draft for a novel. Really keen to push on with it but I will try to tackle new challenges as they arise.

Welcome Cloudy - good to have you aboard.

Any one know how DG is? Take care man - don't get too weighed down.

And what's wrong with that?

I merely suggest to take a look at my siggy. :D

Good for you BT

I will try to make time to read them.

The only problem is that I would prefer to write rather than to work at the things I need to be working at.

Up to three weeks ago I was working 8 hours on the building - 8 hours writing and trying to sleep and catch up with other things in between. Now I have been travelling to research for my ongoing NaNo story (see Travels thread) and need to write again!

It's a great life :D

Hey Wills and all challenge members. I never left just dealing with things in my life. I haven't read anything nor written anything. People are begging me to add more to my Halloween Story, and I promised them I would. If only I could. I have some challenges left undone, and unmotivated to do them. I started to read CM's Earth Day story and I was distracted. I will try to finish it before the 19th deadline. Before that I started to read CM's last challenge story which seemed to have a nice start, but there too I became distracted. I think things are in slow motion in my life and I am watching everything speed on by unable to keep up with any of it. I've suffered from depression for the last 3 months and find it hard to do the things I want to do. I am seeking help and I am taking medication for it. I am hoping to get help soon from my sleeping disorder and there might lie some of the issues that are feeding my depression. Time will tell. Just wanted to let you know what is happening. Sorry I have let my own thread fall to the waist side. Thanks go out to BT and CM for their continuing efforts for this thread. Keep up the good work ladies. Wills and Summer, write when you can. Just remember to write because it is the pleasure of writing you need and not something you need to write. Cloudy, welcome to the group and I hope you bring sunshine behind your covered skies.

On a lighter note. I just saw Kill Bill Vol. 2, and it leaves me hope for original movie making. I find Quentin Tarratino to be a very creative genius both in movie making and at writing. This movie was great and I beg you all to see beyond the violence of the first one and check it out. It is worth it. Enjoy your weekends!

Dingus,

If you don't feel like writing, don't. You know part of depression is the load you have to do compared to what you want to do, don't you?

Try to find things you want to do for the fun of it. Oh, and have a look at this thread:

https://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=215570&highlight=depression

You can find some useful information and links about depression and medication there.

Have a rose and some kisses.

Thanks for the roses and kisses and the pick-me-up. I will check the thread out, thank you. The funny thing is I want to write, yet I can't even start.

DG, I hope that things are looking up for you and that the help that you have sought is working. I know how feel, for I have struggled with it off and on my entire life.

If you want to write, but you just can't seem to get started, how about just sitting down and brainstorming? Don't force yourself to try and write a story or even a poem. Just get some words down on paper. It may help break through the block you are having.

Hope that you will be around more soon. We miss you here.

Who's in charge of the next challenge? It's time for a new one, I think.

Ahum, I had a quick look and Wills and Summer both have only one challenge on their name. So one of them should give out a new one.

Wills, are you up to it?

Summer will be off to the land of tulips and windmills the coming week, if I remember correctly. :D

Not next week - tomorrow!

;)

But I'll post a story later tonight... it would be perfect for a challenge that looked like this:

At least 1000 words
Vaguely 1st person perspective
A golden dildo
A really really bizarre scene that should have remained in a pot-addled nightmare
A doughnut

:D

--but this might be cheating :p
