Welcome to LovelyLuna
Jim slid the key into the lock and opened the door. The smell of old books filled his nostrils and he couldn't help but smile. It had taken him a long time to figure out what he wanted; even longer to make it a reality. But now, just months before his 50th birthday, he had it.
He flipped the sign to open and strode over to the register. He picked up the cleaning rag from behind the counter and wiped the dust from the glass with care. As he polished the glass, he caught his reflection and he couldn't help but think that for a man his age, he didn't look to shabby. He had managed to keep fit and the hair around his temples was only just starting to turn gray. But maybe it was just that he was beaming with pride.
He had dreamed of owning a bookstore since he graduated from college almost 30 years ago. He had saved diligently, waited patiently, and now it was all here.
Of course, he couldn't have done it without the help of his best friend. Kurt had always been there for him. When Jim and Stephany split up, she took his heart and a large portion of their savings. Jim was left without his wife or his dream; but Kurt came to the rescue, helping him to get back on his feet and loaning him the difference for the down payment.
With Kurt's money, and a lot of hard work, Jim held the grand opening last Friday. All his friends and family had come; supporting him and even buying a book or two. But it was the next day that was a complete surprise. Saturday found the place packed, and Jim had begun wishing he had hired a salesperson. Amazing, he was open for two days and already he needed to hire someone! Fortunately, the bookstore was closed on Sunday and Jim had had a day to reflect. Now, it was the beginning of a new week. He expected a quiet morning before things picked up after lunch. Jim was planning on getting some of the bookkeeping finished from the weekend and posting an add on Craigslist for an evening/weekend employee.
Just then, the bell over the door chimed and Jim looked up...
