The Benefits of Crying Wolf

I am not throwing out accusations here.

I'm trying to say there are really NO benefits of lying about rape. I'm not talking about online, I'm talking about in the real world here. I'm talking about the fact that people think that the numbers on sexual assault are skewed because women lie about rape.

It infuriates me. Sure, some women lie about such things. But, to think it is so significant that it would completely skew statistics is just fucked up.

I would think that if anything, the statistics are skewed to the positive side based on the number of women who never tell the authorities, see a doc or go to therapy.

For many, prosecution is almost as traumatic as the act and therefore there is no stat to convey those numbers.

Lavy

So you ask a question and I give an answer which you dont like.

Then you resort to using what......if a man would say to a women would be considered harrasement or worse......

what does that make you???????????

Professionals see through this rather easily. I didn't see this other thread, but this aspect is not enough to skew statistics on rape significantly.

Oh, and something else. When a person has been raped, it takes a hell of alot more than a little sympathy expressed by strangers on a message board...they need arms around them, support, and help.

I'm shutting up now.

And then some. SHUT UP! ;)

Oh, there's also false memory syndrome where a traumatic event can have memories which are not completely accurate, but that won't skew stats either.

MissTaken is right with her comment above.

LAVY

U r pretty stupid......

No you advocated VIOLENCE......the same VIOLENCE you decry...

Do u deny that some women cry rape(falsly)

for monetary reasons? For revenge? For other motivations?

I gave you three recent examples of sports figures who were so accused...FALSLY! for the above reasons!

In another thread, someone continues to mention that women cry wolf many times when they haven't actually been raped.

I would like to know just what the advantage is of lying about being raped.

which thread?

The Bobbit quote..........

Ah. I guess I didn't read that much into it. Thanks for the clarification.

The striking thing to me, frankly, about rapes, is how very many women have suffered. If one adds in abuse the total becomes utterly staggering.

AMEN. It's a tragedy, and quibbling over the statistics seems to be splitting hairs at best and downright misogynistic at worst.

I don't hate women, there are many offshoots to the debate of that thread.

I never claimed that you did, Aquila. My comment was not directed at you.

Woops. sorry bout jumping your back then tortoise. I retract any ill intent I may have felt.

Clearly, any woman must be believed when she says that she has been raped. No woman would ever lie about such a thing. For that matter, women never lie at all, do they?

As for the rapist--a trial is completely unnecessary. Just castrate the guy.

I've heard of people that have been raped by aliens. It's going to be hard to catch those aliens, though. Their flying saucers are just too maneuverable.
