Fresh coffee before the big blowjob hits the penis... uh, peninsula.

Yeah, I know, it's not a joking matter but laughing is better than crying.

I haven't seen forecasts, but looking at Irma on the weather service website it looks like it sucks mostly for the north coast of Cuba. South Florida is getting rain.

It is supposed to turn due north shortly right along the west coast of Florida.

Pulled out two versions of a story I've tried to write before, the beginning anyway, at the coffee shop this morning. Edited them into one that I'm pleased with. I have a general idea where it's going from here but I'm going to spend the day trying to plot out the rest of it so that I can actually finish it for the Halloween contest. I hope.

I didn't say anyone could control hurricanes -- only take responsibility.
Isn't it time to use orbiting solar mirrors to drive storms to safety?
Keeping an eye on Florida from a safe distance -- stay safe, y'all.

Weather here is mild today but still wildfire-smoky, and heating up.
Ragged deer in our dry mountain meadow look like they just quit cigarets.

I won't say anything about my fictional writing lest I jinx myself.
No whining about my eye, not till after the next session in a few days.
Can I guilt-trip myself into doing what I should have done already?

Mmmm, great coffee this morning. It's my reward for sleeping in.

What is it that makes it turn ?

Lookin' forward to it, Mags.

A big high pressure out in the Atlantic, a high pressure north of Texas, and a cold front (Low Pressure) hanging along the Gulf and East coast. It will turn along the path of least resistance. The only problem is once it gets inland, it will be trapped by a High pressure to the north. Large amounts of rain. Nothing like we had but big enough.

Fresh coffee for the evening crowd.

My little Krups type 872 (no relation to the master-of-war Krupp combine) is a decent inexpensive machine. It probably supports a user group. We learn various tricks after a few years, and I've been using these since around 1990. I wonder what tricks others develop?
Is there a Facebook page for it ?
I don't do FB. But I'll look... nope. No FB, no blogs, many user manuals and basic instructions, but no community.

I've not seen current charts -- am I correct in assuming the shallow Gulf waters are warmer than the Atlantic and so will provide more energy, keeping Irma alive and pounding longer than if she went up the east coast?

Fingers crossed.
And toes. And eyes. I'll let someone cross my palm anytime.

At the present time, the straits between Cuba and Florida are 86-88 degrees, the warmest water in the Gulf. That area is where the Gulf Stream starts or is assembled according to how you want to look at it. It was a 3 when it left the Cuban coast and will be a high 4 by the time it hits Florida. Helping that, the forward speed has slowed from 14 mph to 9 mph, giving it even more time over the hot water.

Hot water, tropical moister in the air, and give it a spin. Instant Hurricane.

Sun is just setting here in Sydney. I guess it is still the middle of the Sat/Sun night in the Eastern US. We have had reports all day that Tampa is now likely to be the first major mainland target but I would not like to be anywhere on the Keys on Sunday.

In fact, looking at Google Earth the whole of Peninsular Florida could do with being raised a couple of metres.

At a minimum.

Easily done. Spray epoxy on the peninsula to hold things together. Insert jacks at appropriate points and lift. Instead of a wall along the Mexican border, dig a big trench. Trundle the rubble over to Florida and squirt it under the surface as fill. See, easy-peasy.

Alternatively, we could merely anchor the epoxied peninsula to the sea floor, cut loose the north end, squirt foam under it, and let it float like a diving platform. Storms might rock the state a bit but it won't sink. Probably.

Now why didn't anyone think of that before? :D

Good morning, peoples. Pumpkin pancakes for breakfast!

There ya go screwing around with one corner of the Bermuda Triangle. It's bad enough to screw around with the state that has the only river around the northern hemisphere that flows the wrong way. But then again we could turn the whole thing around and correct that. Not to mention the nice new inter-coastal that would be created when Miami gets to Georgia.

Plot bunnies abound.

Morning all, the coffee is fresh and so are the donuts. Help yourself.

 Hadn't thought of that.

All I want to do today is write . . . But I guess I 'll be a grown-up - laundry, bath for munchkin, cooking, apple butter, etc. etc. etc.

It takes a twisted mind to think of all the angles. ;)

Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. Having kids, you have to be a grownup. There is the fly in the ointment.

My late missus had a sticky that said something like that, stuck on the back of the kitchen door.

Time, I think for a coffee.

Last I looked (even before I saw this) the Willamette (OR), San Joaquin (CA), San Pedro (AZ), Yellowstone (MT), Rio Grijalva (MX), the Mackenzie (NT) and others heading for the Arctic, the Nile, Rhine, Oder, Elbe, Vistula, all flow the wrong way too.

But if Floridians need to feel special about the St Johns, I won't interfere.

Damn, I brewed up espresso but forgot to put a cup under the spout. What a waste. I almost want to slurp the puddle off the drainboard.

Flowing North in the Northern Hemisphere.

But it is a myth that all rivers in the Northern Hemisphere flow South.

I've never heard that one.

I thought maybe TxRad was referring to reversal of flow from tidal oscillations.

What is the "wrong" way?
The way a Florida booster doesn't like. But if we raise Florida by a couple meters, say by squirting fill or foam under the state, we can tip it the other way and fix that. Drain the Great Dismal Swamp through Miami. That'll clean-up the place a bit.

"More coffins, warden?"

Ok, so i don't know what I'm talking about. That's nothing new. :D

The St. Johns is the only river I knew about that flowed north in the top half of the world but then again, I ain't been everywhere.

Since Florida for the most part is a reef, jacking it up will be a major problem. Not to mention, it will let all the water flow right out of the state. Not a good move.

Ok, more coffee coming up.

Easy. Epoxy-seal the bottom too.

The really adventurous might jack-up Florida, put a bubble dome over the top and Project Orion-type engines underneath, and blast into orbit. Fuck Georgia. Fuck Cuba. Fuck DC. Fuck hurricanes and sharks and Portuguese men-o-war and oil spills and global warming. In the right orbit, every day is a sunny day.

Let's go brew coffee in the sun. If you boil the water over an eternal flame, does it last longer?
