I think it's one of those things that, being hellishly expensive appeals, mostly to those who are always happy to pay more for the privilege of paying more.

Less heat, here, too. But the hoped for thunderstorms haven't arrived. Rain would be nice.

Bear, You (and anyone else) are quite welcome to come and get some or our rain. We've had quite a bit lately and it's getting depressing, as well as making aerial work difficult (cutting Aluminium tube with an electric saw in a rain-soaked garden is, I feel, not a welcome option).

I'm sure the Japanese or similar could think of an alternative process for the beans.
(That does not make it any less undesirable, you understand. . . . .).
:)

Morning all,

Fresh coffee is now available. Fresh cinnamon rolls on the counter.

Shoulder still giving me fits. It's the worst when I'm sitting up straight. I've never tried writing from flat on my back. Research yes, butt....

A new, for me, boat design has crossed my mind. More research is needed.

Have a good one and happy writing.

I realize the majority of your clients are anglers but have you looked at the Glen-L plans for the 'Chessie'? It's a little 27' ketch that's trailerable and cute as they come. Not something I'd build . . . I think . . . but really attractive.

Sailboats are of no interest to me as there are very few if any sailboats on the Lake here. In any case, 27 feet is 17 feet longer than my shop is capable of holding.

Did you get the youtube link on the flat bottom Maine work skiff i sent you?

OK, who's hidden the coffee pot ?
My son brought me a pack of Spanish stuff the other day.
I gotta try it in the morning. . . .

Thank you.

Fresh coffee and a fresh kettle for any in need.

Not much writing done today or the last few days for that matter but I have gotten a ton of editing done.

Through Tuesday I got some good writing done, then it stopped. Since then I've tweaked some and edited some. I looked at my notes for this story trying to figure out how to get through this transition and it appears that I really didn't think about it very clearly. So now I have to.

The rethink will probably make it a richer story, bringing in characters I haven't seen recently, setting up new tensions--you know, all those things that might get in the way of a Lit reader. But then, at chapter 19 I'm probably not talking to the typical Lit reader.

I try to resist doing chapters. i have several dozen started but for some reason they don't hold a candle to the original story so I lose interest quickly. Which is odd since I'm doing ten novels on the same set of characters, more or less and having a ball doing it. Maybe it's the sex thing that doesn't work for me.

I don't think there is such a thing as a typical Lit reader. Sex and kinks are too wide a variation for there to be a typical anything.

Years after publish a novella or novel to the marketplace, I release it to free-use sites, so I do have chaptered material. But they are on works that we finished a long time before being posted serially; they are ramblings.

Hello, everyone. :)

I started chapter four of my latest story today. So far, the chapters are averaging close to 6k each. My usual beta reader is preparing for evacuation from Irma so I'll keep writing until things settle down and he has time again. I'm not in a hurry.

Wow; the rain has stopped and there's a bit of sunshine !

Coffee, I think !

I have two stories I'm telling in chapters and I didn't intend either of them to come out this way. I'm working on Unlikely Angels now. I planned it as a novel from the beginning and started writing it in 2010, but bogged down at what is now chapter 12. Laurel delayed posting my third story to Lit, so I had the idea of posting the first seven chapters, which ended on a minor tragedy. I found out that people liked the story and hated the way I left it, so I continued it.

A Valentine's Day Mess was my first contest entry in 2016. I blew the ending and as a result I got a load of comments that said little more than "More!" I think it's still my most-commented story for that reason. I did have a longer story in mind and that is probably why I blew the ending so badly. The first story may have been the best, but I've now posted three "chunks" containing eight chapters and the scores have gone up on each chunk.

That story is a lot of work to write. The last chunk was 27k words, and it took three months to write. For that I now--a month after posting it--have a grand total of 16 votes. The views are okay. It just isn't getting votes.

I probably could have said "Lit readers at large" rather than "typical Lit reader."

Still trying (HA!) to resume writing. Well, I would be if I could see the keyboard. Stories are cooking; when will they burst forth? (When I get my butt in gear, that's when.) One does not try; one does. Yoda wisdom, yada-yada.

Heat wave has broken for a few days and we've a chance of a spit of rain to barely tamp-down the dust. Deer browsing our dry little mountain meadow look decidedly scrawny, does and fawns alike. Not much left to graze on. Bears and pumas haven't been by lately -- the hunting must be better elsewhere.

Damn, only a half-cup of coffee left. Guess I'd better fire-up the Krup depresso machine. Anybody want some depresso, that's decaf espresso? I'll share.

1] There's some good software out there going to or from text, some of it's FREE!

2] Would you be allowed to feed the odd Deer (good for taking photos, I'm told).

I do like the idea of the Krup depresso. I must tell that to my son. . . .

Bad shit, the Mexico quake, on top of all the storms. We know and love some of the wrecked places. Juchitan, center of traditional matriarchal Zapotec culture, has crumbled. Our home is adorned with Zapotec crafts; each piece is a reminder. City damage is reported. Who knows yet how bad it is in remote backcountry?

1) Motivational software is what I need. Maybe like sleep-learning tapes. Get the voices in my head to REALLY push me. I need the masochistic urge.

2) We're not in a park so feeding wildlife is legal. They eat enough of our plants and trees that we feel we ARE feeding them. I'm surprised more locals don't trap and eat them. I hear that's common in the next county south. Hmmm, are there websites advising how to fatten-up your local deer?

3) My little Krups type 872 (no relation to the master-of-war Krupp combine) is a decent inexpensive machine. It probably supports a user group. We learn varios tricks after a few years, and I've been using these since around 1990. I wonder what tricks others develop?

Is there a Facebook page for it ?

You'll probably recall those wonderful pictures of huge airliners coming in to land at St Maarten ?
(See HERE).
Well, that Hurricane has comprehensively flattened most of it.

But here, secure in my little house, I'll have a cup of tea.

We lost two country music stars today: Don Williams and Troy Gentry. :rose:

And starting tomorrow, we're likely to lose a bunch of Florida.

Yeah. I'll take the snow any day over what Florida has.
If only we'd given Florida to Cuba when we had the chance, we wouldn't worry so much about this. Let Raul Castro work it out. Oh yeah, he's quitting. Doesn't anybody want to be responsible? Who wants to run Hurricane Alley?

Hmmm, I think I had too much coffee. Anybody got reds?

It's making a landfall on Cuba tonight so I guess Raul hasn't any power over Mutha Nature. No one has.

Fresh coffee for the night, uh, morning crew.

Let's see, now, Raul is quoted as saying he's going to retire in a little while. But one might say, I guess, that the wonderful Socialist People's thingy is capable of dealing with a little thing like the weather (after all, it's not a 'new' thing, is it?).
It will be interesting to see who or how any needed help will arrive (not counting those Cubans who made it out and will help any remaining relatives).

Far worst hit are the smaller islands. They WILL need help.

But -- enough, I say.
The sun is shining and it's time for my morning coffee!
