Evening all,

Well, the integration has gone well with neither of us being assimilated. The office slash spare bedroom slash workout room got the most rearranging with the treadmill banished to the back porch. Her computer and computer desk now occupies the far wall.

The bedroom got another chest of drawers and a bench at the end of the bed. The closet space even worked out great after she decided to retire most of her work wardrobe since she no longer owns a company and doesn't have to work.

Logic does work if spoken in a soft voice. :D

Fresh coffee for those in need and a kettle on the back burner for our tea sippers.

Isn't domesticity fun :rose::rose:

I'm drinking tea this evening - I actually OD'd on coffee today. drinking the extra string caffeinated stuff that I made a bit strong. So it's very very mild tea for me. For tonight anyhow.

It has been a sleepless week of heat, the stink of liquid manure spread on the fields nearby, coughing child and utter exhaustion. Things are looking up though. Munchkin is better and this should be the last day of high temps. October is my favorite month of the year and I am working on a story for the Halloween contest that I'm quite excited about so I think things will soon be much better.

Hope things get better with the cooler weather. And have fun with your story.

I'm heads down in aliens and eggs....

Combining households is still under discussion. We are both expecting it to happen but when and under what circumstances is uncertain. I have a rather huge house and she believes in minimalism. Potential conflicts might occur, but not yet.

I've closed up our house for the first time since May. It's cool and raining. We may get enough rain tonight to make up for the fact that we've had only a tenth of an inch of rain this month.

In the mean time I have a story that needs to be told just so, and it's giving me fits. It's a good thing I'm not trying to make a living from this. I've gone back and adjusted story details (and there will be more to adjust) so that the next scenes can work better.

I predicted to an email correspondent that it would take three months for me to finish this part of the story. I may finish it in two months and release in two parts. We'll see.

My house is two bedroom, two bath, but only 1200 sq feet, not counting the 12x38 screened in porch. She is moving out of a high rise condo that was around a thousand sq feet. From Chicago to the piney woods of east Texas, now that is a major change. But then again, she was born and raised thirty miles north of here so it is like coming home after thirty years. So far the only problem she has is that it is too quiet. :)

It might make sense to make the pods from disposable or recyclable materials (aluminium ?). Still, sense in commercial matters can be a trifle . . erm . . 'rare' ?

Coffee, please. It's after dawn

Nespresso recycles pods.
Is that Nestlé? Because of their infant formula marketing policies implicated in the deaths of millions of third-world children, IMHO all who think themselves either religious or progressive should boycott Nestlé. That's tough because of their omnipresence but we do take SOME moral stands. We do not enrich Nestlé.

Meanwhile I'm compiling a list of all eateries along a 90-mile mountain corridor. Start with the taco wagons, brewpub, and BBQ down in the county seat. Try the buffets at the Indian casino. World-class ice cream and good donuts in the next town, but skip the Italian and burgers. Great redneck burgers further up the road, and good bistro food on a side loop. Fine deli sandwiches nearby. Nice vegetarian brunch stop just uphill, and a fulfilling greasy spoon beyond that, but the next station sucks. Decent food at small resorts; great bistro food outside a major ski area but they're renovating. Finally on up to Lake Tahoe and a few nods. I'll mention who has good coffee.

Those are fewer eating opportunities than can be found in a couple of miles in a major city, sure. Welcome to sparser country. It's bleak out here. All the Chinese buffets in the county have closed. No Indian. Skip the Thai. Hardly even any junk McFood. Pass the coffee.

Morning all,

I got in a solid four hours of writing this morning. Even then, the last hour or so I was having a hard time ignoring the naked new housemate. It was more teasing on her part than anything else.

Then the house guest from down the street showed up with, "Let me show you how to do that right." Followed by her crawling under my desk.

After that, all bets were off.

Fresh coffee is available while I go have my breakfast and breakfast junior. :)

It sounds like you need all the sustenance you can get.

Hello, everyone. :rose:

I'm taking a break from preparing for the birthday party Saturday. My to-do list has two items crossed off . . . and another ten to finish. I'll be too exhausted to enjoy myself. ;)

Tonight I'm baking cookies. Tomorrow it's deviled eggs and finger food snacks. Saturday morning I'll go to my son's store (that's where we're having the party) and set things up before returning home to get ready.

Good Luck, Madam. :rose:

I have two 'tower' PCs. My main one is old but has been upgraded a few times and seems to work quite well, for all it's running XP Pro. It's been kinda busy moving 100Gb of films from an internal drive to an external drive so I can do a bit of a clean-up prior to another hardware upgrade a bit later.

The other (B) machine was Win 7 and I made the mistake of letting it 'upgrade' to that ridiculous "one size fits all" operating system called Windows 10. It took an entire weekend to do the necessary 'upgrades' which is never a speedy process; frankly it would be easier to post me a CD.

With the A machine busy, I have had to use the B machine (which is slightly slower) to get at Lit. It is normally left on running the 'folding software', (a charitable endeavour) but tonight I get another dose of "these updates need a re-start; do it now?"

I really would Love to know why, when a machine is on, it cannot simply do the software update whilst the machine is not in much use, if any. Why wait for me to say "Yes", when I have to wait simply ages for it to do the bloody job ?

Gnash, Gnash, Grrr, Grrr

Sod it; I'll have a coffee. It could be a long night.

Would you like some more rain? We've had half an inch since midnight last, and it's still falling - loads of it. Just bring your own bucket/s for some.

'Fraid that's not a lot of help round here. But then, I doubt anyone outside a major city has a clue about "National Coffee Day" [even that's doubtful], so normal service is in operation.

Which reminds me; I haven't had my breakfast coffee yet. . . . .

"National Coffee Day" That's every day around here. I don't think there is a coffee shop on that list that is withing 60 miles of here. Okay, we're going to drive an hour for a free cup of coffee. Somehow the logic doesn't work.

I have a Nano Novel on my hard drive from a number of years ago. I've had to rebuild it, all except the preamble as my laptop was stolen and I lost the rest. It is now up to 160k words and not even at a breaking point.

The preamble was posted to Lit a few years ago to mixed reviews. Most loved the strong female lead but hated the fact that i killed off everyone within 500 miles. Now ask for a sequel you idiots. For any interested, here is a link: Powers

We seem to be doing okay on our own. We had 1.66 inches in the last two days and we're supposed to get some more today.

The weather has been very cool. The peaks northeast of here have snow.

On Nat'l Coffee Day various eatery chains, none of which has an outpost closer than a 90 minute drive, pass out a free cop of corporate coffee. Be still, oh my heart!

But coffee is needed, and NOW. I must be coherent on the phone. Is any espresso left? Is a hypodermic around? Am I that desperate?

No more excuses.

I saw a programme on TV the other day that stated that "espresso" had the least caffeine. I wouldn't know; I don't speak Italian.
Any Tea in the pot, please ?

PS.
I had another go at taking a picture of the Moon this evening with my 500mm lens.
Came out marginally better, but not what I'd call brilliant.

For a brilliant shot of the moon you would need less clouds, a higher altitude, and a tripod. Good luck on the first two in England. ;)

Friday evening with a forecast of a beautiful weekend with a lower humidity cool front rolling through. Mid 60's in the early mornings and the low 80's during the day. A preview of Fall.

Fresh coffee and kettle for the evening crew coming up.

Writing every spare moment today on my Halloween story. "Welcome to Nockatunga Station" is getting licked into shape. The intro is done, the gruesome ending, the alien- human sex is underway, some of the eggs have been laid. The halloween party has been roughed out and thanks to Robert E Howard it's better than it might have been. Its almost romantic in an awful way....

I'm going to need more coffee tho so thx Tex. I'm just going to stick my face in the pot and suck..... don't worry I'll put a new one on.

Of course, on National Coffee Day I didn't have time to make coffee until I got to work.

Whelp, just a little too much sleeplessness this week for me so I'm changing course. I'm still going to finish the story I'm working on but then I'll put it away for a bit, maybe it's for next year. Instead, I'm editing a story I wrote this past year to submit. It's very appropriate and I like it but there's no sex at all. Oh well. I hope some people will enjoy it, it has a little mystery, romance, horror and fantasy. I really enjoyed writing it.
