I have been hearing about THE BIG ONE most of my life. I don't think I will panic yet.
Panic: no. Preparation: yes. Best way to survive an earthquake is to be someplace solid with nothing above you. Only way to survive a tsunami is to not be there when it lands.

Gotta know the risks. We checked before our last two home moves; both are in seismically quiet zones. We worry about forest fires but they'll probably give enough warning for survival. And we'll not move to western Cascadia, nope.

There was a programme a year or three ago about what would happen to the English coastline in the event of the see rising (due to strange subterranean forces, etc.).
It turns out that Doncaster would likely be by the sea. (take a look HERE.)

There are times when I suspect that the Actuaries do their sums wrong.
"Not had a No 8 in the last century or three. Build the safety margin for 7.6, eh ?"
Then the Insurers get all up tight.
And so on.
Time for a cup of tea and bed, I think.

I'm a geologist, and a few other things. I read the article (it isn't a peer-reviewed technical bit, by the way) and I'm not impressed. I don't see it affecting anyone's property values.

The Cascadia fault seems to break at intervals between 750 and 10000 years. That's a pretty wide spread. Current theory is to reinforce all old buildings but not to lay awake at night worrying. Sensible.

That's good. Uphill is probably better. We're considering someplace around Sweet Home.

Here's the wake-up article:

Oh, I'm just east of I5. I guess if it happens, I'll have to hope it leaves me with waterfront property and a beach view. :)

Pass the pot.

There ya go, man. One Pot.
I think that if I was over there and worried, I guess somewhere in the hills would be best; I don't fancy a 100ft wave speeding towards me, somehow.

Coffee, I think;
Can I pour another for someone whilst it's in my hand ?

It is way too early to be so late, or something along those lines.

Happy Sinday

Fresh coffee and a kettle for the morning crew. There is a box of cinnamon rolls around here somewhere. Grab one before HP shows up, if you want one at all. ;)

There is nothing wrong with the thermostat. The whole thing was fake science. They are going to fill all the faults on the west coast full of super glue. (Sounds like a SoCal idea to me). :D

No, not peer-reviewed because not a technical paper, but it did win the Pulitzer for best feature reporting.

It's too late for coffee now. Maybe some belladonna tea. For the dreams.

I'd take one of those cinnamon rolls.

Ugh, what a night of strange dreams and coughing. Went to the guest bedroom after a bit. It was at least cooler in there but still, I wasn't comfortable.

Almost coffee time.

Happy Sunday :rose:

Too late; thanks for the roll.
Our thermostats indicate a relatively warm day, for some strange reason.
OK, who's finished off all the coffee, then ?
<fills kettle and sets it all up>.

Happy Sunday, Mags. :rose:

I don't know which is worst; having the cough or realising you're disturbing the partner.

:rose::kiss:
I wasn't disturbing him, he sleeps through everything. But he likes the windows closed so it was too hot and stuffy. I like it cooler.

Now, when my late wife used to have a cough, I'd get no sleep, 'cos she woke me with anything noisier than a snore. And I was Very Conscious of depriving her of a decent night with my cough, too.

Care for a cup of tea, me dear ?

Yes, maybe ginger and lemon tonight.

When I originally conceived of Unlikely Angels (about 2010, as I recall) the story consisted of three parts: the setup (now chapters 1-4), the reveal (now to be chapter 21), and the end.

I finally reached the point of writing the reveal. Putting ideas that have haunted me for years down in words is a pleasant experience. I think it will all need some massage to make it a pleasant experience for the reader.

Congrats NW. It's hard for me to produce the longer works, but it's so satisfying to see them turn out. I think probably because it takes a certain amount of dedication and stick-to-it. I love it when I rattle a 10k story off the top of my head, but it's some other kind of satisfaction to stick to it with an idea over the long haul.

My partner has been sick lately (and after my eye surgeries I'm less-than-perfect help) but felt better today. We drove uphill to a surprisingly fine little vegan breakfast-lunch eatery on our mountain highway, PEARL'S ON 88. They had fresh-baked cinnamon rolls, of fuck me! But their large breakfast portions overstuffed us. We'll go back for rolls tomorrow.

[Piss-off problems out here in the boonies: No culture beyond biker bars and church musicals. Few non-toxic eateries. Vanishingly little public transport. Crack labs out yonder. Dead bears in the aqueduct. Big pickup tail-gaters. Nothing cheap. And county animal control officers never arrive in time to handle vicious neighborhood dogs.]

Summer is definitely passing. We saw snow on the Crystal Range overlooking Lake Tahoe. We call weekend traffic descending from a High Sierra resort the Kirkwood 500 but today most trailered OHVs/ATVs and dirt bikes, not snow gear, and none we saw carried slushy dustings. That'll change in a few weeks.

Hey, that belladonna tea really works! Especially mixed with damiana and coleus leaves.

I've never rattled a 10k story off the top of my head. I'd like that.

On Lit, the only good way to produce a longer work is to write it all first, then post it piece-by-piece on a regular schedule. I can't imagine doing that. If I had a whole, good novel ready to go, why would I post it to Lit bit by bit?

My readers for 'Unlikely Angels"and "Valentine's Day Mess" just have to wait. I'll get to them when I get to them. I have to rebuild a new readership every time I post.

There are cultured areas of the boonies but they take finding and they aren't by any definition 'bargain basement'. We have one about three hours north of us and my lady friend would love to relocate there. She just heard about a 'deliberate community' that formed there. It filled up immediately, of course, but openings will eventually occur. We're keeping an eye out.

Because you'd already had it in the marketplace for a year or more, it's pretty much made what it's going to make, and you'd like to broaden the readership for it.

It sounds like you mean taking the finished piece off from Lit and publishing it elsewhere.

That could work, but the UA story has already been lifted (at least through Chap 13) and posted on other sites. One even wrapped it around appealing and completely irrelevant picture of naked young women. I imagine that other publishers might avoid the story because of that.

Publishing it to the marketplace first (which I think is what I posted) and then, later, after it's made what it's going to make, post it to Literotica and other Web sites.

It's not rocket science. I've done it for a decade. It also makes have it stolen and reposted sort of "so what." You've already made you money out of it.

Tonight it's not me coughing but the munchkin. I'm going to need the coffee IV. Getting this Halloween story in got a whole lot harder.

My old Grannie used to refer to the sufferer of such youthful ailments as "delicate."
Let us hope the Munchkin recovers soon.

My car's in the garage for a service and MoT (the annual test for safety, etc.),
and the weather is gloomy yet not cold.
I've ordered a little manual coffee grinder and I've not a clue how to use it. Hopefully,
it will include full 'Instructions'.

I'll settle for Instant,. for now

Morning.... Uh, Afternooner all,

Fresh coffee for the afternoon and evening crews.

I got attacked in my sleep this morning and then we had a nap. When I woke up from the nap, I was the attacker. After that, we needed another nap. When we woke up, we were hungry so...

Lunch was good but dessert was even better. Followed by another nap.

Way too many naps butt then again. :D

No writing so far today but the coffee is excellent.
